A DVD player is just a DVD player, unless it's the LG DN798. This single-disc DVD player delivers video upconversion to 1080p for superior video quality right from the video source all the way to your HDTV. While DVD video has a 720 x 480 resolution, plasma and LCD HDTVs have fixed pixel resolutions of either 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080. In order to view DVD video content on an HDTV, the DVD video signal must be translated into an HDTV-compatible signal. As a result, at some point in the video signal's trip from the disc to the TV, a video scaler/upconverter must be involved. Now, most fixed-pixel HDTVs have built-in video scalers, but these devices don't have access to the video signal until after the signal has been transmitted to the HDTV from the DVD player. This allows room for transmission-error based degradation of the video signal, so that while the video is scaled to fit the HDTV, it may not have the highest possible level of clarity. By using the DN798's built-in video scaler right at the source of the video signal, the risk of unwanted video interference being amplified by the HDTV's scaler post-transmission is eliminated. Because the LG DN798 can upconvert DVD video all the way to 1080p, you are able to enjoy clear, clean DVD video in your HDTV home theater. |
