| Canon's Speedlite employs Evaluative Through The Lens (E-TTL) flash metering. The beauty of E-TTL is that it discharges a low-power preflash from the main bulb to determine correct flash exposure. The preflash is used to calculate the proper light output needed to achieve a properly exposed subject. |

Less Fooling Around |

| The preflash exposure is calculated by the camera's metering system, as opposed to being measured as a reflection off the film. This means more accurate exposure metering and less fooling caused by stray light bouncing around inside the camera. |

Smart Sensors |

| If a photograph is taken under extremely bright conditions, auto fill reduction is automatically triggered and the white light output will be diminished by approximately 2 f-stops. |

| With a standard 50mm lens, the Speedlite 580EX has a distance range of up to 98 feet. And the assist beam covers all focus points in EOS cameras with 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, or 45 AF points with a distance range of two to 32.8 feet at center and two to 16.4 feet at periphery. |
