Digital TV: Welcome to the digital age On February 17, 2009, federal law requires that all full-power television broadcast stations stop broadcasting in analog format and broadcast only in digital format. Why the switch to digital? Digital is a more efficient way to broadcast. Digital will free up the airwaves for other services, including public safety. Digital provides clearer pictures, more channels, and some free, over-the-air high definition content for consumers with HDTV sets. How do consumers make the switch to digital TV?
