Top Quality Optics And Electronics, Fits In Your Pocket
Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-P150 is the world's first compact, point-and-shoot digital camera with more than 7 Megapixel resolution, putting the ability to take breathtaking, near-professional photos right in your pocket or purse; and it's loaded with features usually found only on higher-priced, full-sized cameras. This camera comes standard with a Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar 7.9mm-23.7mm (38mm-114mm equivalent 35mm) focal length, seven-element, 3X, zoom lens. Legendary Zeiss lenses feature an advanced optical multi-layer coating offering less glare and flare with heightened contrast. The results are vivid image brilliance, true-to-life color saturation, and flawless renditions of subtle tones. Bolstering the exceptional optics are outstanding electronics like Sony's 14-bit Digital Extended Analog-to-Digital Processor that captures the range between highlight and shadow with up to 16,384 values for extended dynamic contrast and detail. The 12-bit processing offered by some other cameras can muster only 4,096 values.
Big Picture
The 3X optical zoom lens on the Sony's DSC-P150 helps frame your shots for better digital pictures. Optical zoom lets you bring distant subjects closer or pull back for wider shots. A 0-14.0X Smart Zoom (at VGA size) intelligently uses the full CCD (Charge-Coupled Device) area to let you zoom into the portion of interest by cropping the image size, thus avoiding the image degradation of other digital zooms. The 1/1.8" 7.2 Megapixel (MP) Super HAD (Hole Accumulation Diode) CCD provides excellent image quality by allowing more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise. This means you get great results in a variety of JPEG still image sizes. With its high-resolution CCD, this camera captures in five different image sizes, along with selectable fine or standard JPEG compression. The 7.2 MP image is 3072 x 2304 pixels, making the DSC-P150 the first pocket-sized digital camera capable of producing images suitable for enlargement up to 300 dpi 8" x 10". The range of images goes all the way down to 640 x 480 pixel images that are ideal for e-mailing off to friends and relatives.
Get Focused
Evaluating five separate focus areas of the frame, MultiPoint Auto Focus can intelligently focus on the subject and avoid mistakenly focusing on the background, making for clear, sharp pictures. The AF (Auto Focus) Illuminator briefly lights up the subject in low or no-light conditions, helping to establish a positive focus lock. Multi-Pattern Measuring independently meters 49 points of the frame, establishing the optimum exposure value, even in scenes where pronounced highlight and shadow are not centered in the frame. Besides converting RGB+E input to ideal RGB, Sony's innovative Real Imaging Processor (RIP) CPU also manages image control and power consumption. Because it's optimized for digital camera operation in the DSC-P150, the RIP exhibits extraordinary image quality, improves camera response time, decreases shutter lag, and extends battery stamina.
Put Your Pictures In Motion
As if capturing high-quality still images weren't enough, Sony has given the DSC-P150 video-like, multi-shot capability with Multi-Burst mode that captures 16 individual 320 x 240 pixel frames as part of a single 1280 x 960 pixel image, which will then play back sequentially in the camera. Selectable 1/7.5, 1/15, 1/30 second frame intervals provide convenient motion analysis. Five-Shot Burst mode allows you to snap up to five shots (7 MP fine) or up to 100 shots (VGA standard) at 1.1 frames-per-second, even at 7 MP resolution. Burst mode is perfect for high-speed subjects or fast moving action like sports. With MPEG Movie VX mode, the camera captures VGA (640 x 480 pixel) high-frame-rate (up to 30 frames-per-second) audio/video clips where media capacity is the only limit on length. Video Mail mode produces smaller-sized files that can be e-mailed.
Give Your Creativity A Boost
With nine scene modes, camera parameters can be matched to your shooting conditions. Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Landscape, Soft Snap, Candle, Snow, Beach, Fireworks, and High-Speed Shutter presets make it easy to optimize difficult shooting environments. During long Twilight mode exposures, Slow Shutter Noise Reduction captures the scene in two exposures. The second shot subtracts the noise pattern from the first shot, producing a final image that is virtually noise-free. And the fun doesn't have to stop at the capture stage. You can add Sepia or Black & White picture effects to give your images some extra creativity. If you want to include yourself in a photographic masterwork, there's a 10-second self-timer that allows you to get from behind the camera and into the picture.
No More Film, No More Developing
Instead of film, the DSC-P150 uses Memory Sticks--small, compact, removable digital media storage devices--to store the images (and audio) you think are worth saving. At about the size of a stick of chewing gum (and just as portable), Memory Sticks offer an ideal solution for storing and transferring of your digital images. You can download the saved images from the camera to your computer via the included USB cable and then manipulate them (if they weren't perfect originally) with the included Picture Package for Sony (for Windows), Pixela ImageMixer (for Macintosh), or other photo-editing software. There are also devices available that allow you to work with your Memory Stick data without a computer; for example, printers with card slot readers that will make prints of your images directly from the Memory Stick. And Sony has anticipated the future by making this camera compatible with Memory Stick PRO media. This new format is tested to support up to 1GB of information, and continues to improve. Your new digital camera comes with a 32MB Memory Stick, which is more than enough to get you started down the road to a new digital photography lifestyle.
