Creative convenience at your fingertips
It's hard to pick which features of the D5100 digital SLR are most useful. Of course, the 16.2 megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor and EXPEED 2 image processing engine with a remarkably wide ISO range (100 to 6400) should be mentioned. After all, you can shoot faster with clearer results. Even high-speed action is easy to capture with 4 frame-per-second continuous shooting. And the high dynamic range makes all the details pop, even in highlighted or shadowy sections of the image. Technically speaking, you can't ask for much more than the precision and flexibility of the D5100 from Nikon. And while you might expect that those technical abilities are as good as it gets, Nikon makes it even better by adding an array of creative and convenient features. Not just full HD 1080p filming, but full-time autofocus so your subjects are easily trackable even in motion. Stereo sound recording. A full array of effects, like Selective Color, Night Vision, and Miniature Effect. And a 3.0", 921,000 dot, vari-angle LCD monitor that lets you position the camera for the best shot without sacrificing your view. When you don't feel like manually adjusting the settings, choose from one of 19 scene modes for ideal image capture. Finally, edit on the fly with a host of in-camera editing optinos. The Nikon D5100 will change your photography experience from the ground up.
And then there's the lens
The Nikon D5100 digital SLR is sold with the AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens. This compact 3x zoom lens covers the most frequently used focal range. Nikon matches the performance of their cameras with equally high-performing lenses. The 18-55mm Nikkor in this kit features a rounded seven-blade diaphragm, Super Integrated Coating, and a hybrid aspherical lens element, resulting in a detailed yet natural-looking image with faithful color reproduction. Nikon's exclusive Silent Wave Motor ensures fast, quiet auto focus operation. And, to maintain crisp image lines, the 18-55mm lens is equipped with Vibration Reduction image stabilization. With this technology, you can shoot at up to 3 shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible with dramatically sharper still images and video capture. With Vibration Reduction, you don't have to be afraid to use the zoom.

I had several Nikons in the past and I was always satisfied with them. They were film cameras and they always lived up to their reputation. The D5100 keeps up that reputation. Since I received it I have used it extensively and its a pleasure to report that I made the right decision when I purchased it.
