A new cell structure with an improved crystal emissive layer was redesigned for a more intense black with added detail, while a new filter delivers enhanced contrast in bright environments. A fully integrated bottom speaker with digital amplifier offers improved clarity and accuracy of sound.

A Rich Experience

The PDP4280HD delivers the ultimate in entertainment. Optimum Video Mode with an optical light sensor gives automated adjustment of picture in both varying light conditions and by program content such as movies, news, sports, etc. Smooth film mode eliminates motion judder in 3:2 Pulldown (60Hz) providing natural, even playback of content created from film. A Room Light Sensor reads the amount of light in your room, so the PDP4280HD can adjust to suit the conditions. Fully integrated ATSC and Dual NTSC tuners with built-in CableCARD slot let you peruse your favorite channels without having to hook up an external tuner box. There's even a Home Gallery that offers a convenient way to view your digital photos via the USB connection.

Advanced PureCinema

Film doesn't translate directly to a format that a TV can process. To display a movie on film, 6 frames per second (fps) must be added to the film's original 24 fps to equal 30 fps, the video format. Called 3:2 pulldown, this interpolation process improves NTSC reproduction of film-based material, but generates uneven motion known as jitter. Pioneer developed Advanced Pure Cinema to eliminate jitter. This exclusive technology enables 3:3 pulldown, which synchronizes perfectly the frame rate of film and eliminates the need for interpolations. Now, your film-based material on DVD, videotape, and regular TV will match the smooth, natural reproduction of film.

See Twice As Much

With the PDP4280HD's Split Screen/Picture-In-Picture, you effectively get twice the viewing satisfaction. This multi-window display takes dual material viewing to new levels, letting you display any combination of HDTV, NTSC, or even computer images, either as twin images (50/50 split screen) or as Picture-in-Picture. You can watch pro football on HDTV alongside fantasy football on your PC. Or, set up a right-corner freeze frame of a golf swing alongside the telecast it came from. The PDP4280HD features advanced Picture-in-Picture (4 positions), Picture-Side-Picture (3 Positions and Still Picture capability.

Single-Cable Connections

Four independent HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) 1.3 inputs with HDMI-CEC control and the ability to accept 1080p 24/60Hz signals assure that the best video signal is always sent from the source (HDTV signal, DVD player) to the PDP4280HD's display. HDMI does this by allowing uncompressed video and multi-channel audio data to be input directly to the display device through a single cable. Without HDMI connections, you'd need three video connections for high definition video and 6 audio connections for multi-channel sound. There's also a USB input, a PC input to use your PDP4280HD as a computer monitor, an optical digital audio output, and even a subwoofer output.

Packaged Pixels

Pioneer's deep encased cell structure means that each individual pixel in the PDP4280HD's display is encased in its own cell, with walls on all sides so that light doesn't bleed into neighboring cells. This energy-efficient design allows each pixel to deliver a more concentrated beam of light, for truer colors and brighter images. The clear front suface of the PDP4280HD's display is actually a precisely manufactured optical-grade, non-glass color filter bonded directly to the plasma panel. This filter increases the spectrum of light emitted by the plasma, for a fuller range of colors and exceptional color accuracy compared to front filters made of glass. It's also much lighter than a glass filter and increases contrast by limiting ambient light reflections in bright viewing environments.

There's Optimum, Dynamic, Standard, Movie, Game and User modes (PC Input: only Standard and User). You have aspect ratio control (Wide, Zoom, Cinema, Full and 4:3) Picture Detail settings include DRE Picture (Off, High, Mid, Low), Black Level (Off/On), ACL (Off/On), Enhance Mode (1, 2, 3) and Gamma (1, 2, 3). The PDP4280HD includes 3 color temperature adjustments, 3 digital noise reduction settings, block noise reduction and mosquito noise reduction, among other adjustments that give you just the picture you're looking for.
