Navigate those Blu waters
Integrating the HD video, studio-quality audio, and online interactivity offered by the BD-S1900 into your home theater is simple, thanks to this Blu-ray Disc player's combination of two technologies. First, an on-screen graphical user interface brings you a clear, user-friendly platform for navigating all of the BD-S1900's advanced features using your system's HDTV. Second, RS-232c connectivity makes it possible to integrate this player into a professionally installed, whole-home A/V system. It's time to embark into the Blu-ray experience.
Beyond the disc
You'd best sit down for this one: there's more to the Blu-ray experience than just Full HD video and audio. Like what, you ask? Um, how about oodles of bonus features available via the internet? Awesome, right? Right. Thanks to integrated BD-Live technology, the single-disc BD-S1900 Blu-ray player from Yamaha brings you access to a diverse array of material available via your pre-existing internet connection. Watch deleted scenes, shorts, and trailers. Participate in online gaming. Chat using audio and video messaging. Simply connect the BD-S1900 to your internet via the built-in ethernet port, plug in a USB storage device for storage of bonus features, pop in a BD-Live-enabled Blu-ray Disc movie, and take your experience beyond the disc.
The power of Blu
Blu-ray discs look just like DVDs. They're even the exact same size. So what makes them any different . . . or better, for that matter? The answer is found in one word: blue. While DVD technology uses a wide red laser to encode and read data from DVD discs, Blu-ray Disc technology uses a narrow blue-violet beam. Big deal? Hardly. Because the Blu-ray laser is so much narrower and precise, it is able to fit significantly more information in the same amount of space as DVD. How much more information? Try over five times the storage capacity of DVD. Not only is that enough room for Full HD 1080p video (compared to DVD's 480i), but also for 7.1-channels of studio-quality surround sound audio. And that's just the beginning. There's still space left over for bonus materials like deleted scenes and director commentary. Discover the power of Blu.
Hold on! HD audio?!
That's right, Blu-ray Disc brings you both Full HD video and HD audio. Unlike the 5.1-channel compressed audio found on DVD which has had some of the original high- and low-frequency audio removed, the 7.1 channel surround sound audio found on Blu-ray Disc is true to the studio original. However, in order to take full advantage of this audio experience, you need a way of decoding the digital signal so that it can be sent on to your amplifier and then on to your 7.1-channel speaker system. Good thing the BD-S1900 from Yamaha packs the latest decoding technologies from Dolby and dts. Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD Master Audio decoding serve up full, lossless 7.1-channel surround sound, bringing you the listening experience that the director intended. If you have a newer receiver, you can simply use the HDMI output to transmit the HD audio to your receiver (along with the HD video), or for compatibility with older receivers, the BD-S1900 features 7.1-channel analog audio output.
Plentiful playback
If one thing characterizes today's world of home entertainment, it's an abundance of audio and video formats. Movies come on everything from disc sources like Blu-ray and DVD to home video and internet sources like AVCHD and DivX. And then audio is available on CD and in compressed formats like MP3 and WMA. And further, photos have their own formats, such as JPEG. Ensuring that you have a single, versatile source for playback of all your audio, video, and photo formats. the BD-S1900 supports Blu-ray and DVD video discs, AVCHD video, DivX video downloaded from the internet; CD, MP3, and WMA audio; and JPEG photos.
The advanced connectivity of HDMI
Bringing you the absolute best in connectivity, Yamaha's BD-S1900BL features one HDMI output. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the only interface in consumer electronics that can carry both uncompressed high-definition (HD) video and uncompressed multi-channel audio in all HD formats including 720p, 1080i and even 1080p. Your incoming media content comes in a variety of sizes, resolutions and formats, and with that in mind, HDMI systems automatically configure to display that content in the most effective format. Since HDMI carries all channels on video and audio, there is only one cable to plug into any HDMI-enabled source and display device. No more complicated cable set-up when installing your home theater system, and no more ugly cable mess behind your components. HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on this single cable. Also, HDMI is fully backward-compatible with DVI. (Please note that a physical adapter, sold separately, is needed to make the conversion from HDMI to DVI.)
Your HD lifeline
High Definition Multimedia Interface, or HDMI, is the only home A/V connection that allows for both Full HD 1080p video and 7.1-channel studio-quality audio to be passes along a single cable. In other words, in order to take full advantage of your home theater’s high definition potential, you need to HDMI cabling to link HD-capable components.
