One camera, many uses
The Sony 16.2-megapixel DSC-HX100V/B is the type of camera that doesn't really have a wrong use when it comes to capturing your memories. Sure, you can approach it as a point and shoot camera. It's got Sony's Superior Auto mode that analyzes your scene and chooses the best possible settings to get the best possible picture, can capture clear images even when you're dealing with a moving subject, and even has face detection to keep track of your favorite subjects. Of course, with full manual focus, aperture, and even shutter speeds, it makes an approachable SLR style camera. The Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonar T lens, with 30x optical zoom, gives you incredibly clear photos and lets you frame your shots exactly the way you want — wide-angle to extreme close-up. A background defocus option lets you get subject emphasis normally only found on photos taken with a DSLR, leading to sharp, beautiful photo possibilities. 3D isn't out of reach, with the capability for 3D still images, by taking two quick pictures and combining them to add depth to your most memorable moments. Last, but not least, you can also reach for the DSCHX100V instead of carrying your camcorder: you can get full HD 1080p video from the same camera you get amazing stills.

The instructions for this camera are non-existent for macro and close-up work. I use a light box and all appropriate items and could not get a reasonable let alone a good picture. I dont use it for anything else so I cant comment on the rest of the functions but close-up are a no go. I returned it for a Lumix which is not too bad.

This camera is of excellent quality and since I am not an expert with a camera I enjoy it as it is simple to use. I dont think it will be necessary to buy a lot of lenses and accesories and this in itself makes it easy to use and therefor a good value.

Very pleased with this camera. Ive finally found a camera that I can use for everything and not have to continually change lens. I can take a studio quality picture of a person standing next to me. I can take quality shots even if the person is 100 yards away. Im able to take great action shots with a burst mode that allows me to take 10fps at 16.2 mp resolution.

I conducted my camera research & ended up purchasing the Sony DSC-HX100V. I read the Sony camera manual from Sonys website while I waited for my purchase to be delivered. So I was somewhat familiar with the camera. I am used to a basic digital point-&-shoot camera & this was a large step-up for me. I re-read the internet manual when I received the camera & took pictures throughout my home in different light settings using the many different functions. I was using the cameras internal memory which only held like 3 or 4 pictures - a memory card is a must & I purchased, what I was told, a good HD one from a local retailer relatively cheap. There are so many functions that at first I was overwhelmed a little. But, I learned fairly quickly what settings I like in the various lightings, background, scenes & scenarios. Im still new to the camera, but I am very pleased with the picture quality & with the HD video quality & sound. I did some short video, which I think was in a mid-range to higher video quality setting, & it looked great. I hooked the camera up to a PS3 & after playing around with the PS3 I found out how to download the photos & video. The sound quality seemed pretty clear & crisp - however, I never zoomed the camera lens so I am not sure if camera noise can be heard. Again, the video & pictures looked pretty good on my HD TV. I was impressed with the video I only took video indoors - yet to take any outdoors. Each picture you take loads the pic on the LCD screen & sometimes, depending on the settings - the picture can take a little longer to process a second or two. So for the expert photographer the waiting period for the next shot may be a little longer than they may like. For me its fine & I am very pleased with this purchase. Obviously a cheaper price would be better, but sometimes you get what you pay for. Hopefully, once I get some use out of this camera I will still feel the same. As a side note Typically, I do not purchase too much via the internet. However, I have made a few what I call large electronic purchases & they have mostly been from Vanns. I am a repeat buyer from Vanns & I can state that thus far I have been extremely pleased with the entire process - from purchase price, purchasing to delivery. I have not needed their customer care yet & hopefully I won't have to find that out.
