You run the show
What's better than TV? Well, high definition TV, of course. But what's better than HD TV? The answer: TV on your terms. After all, you like TV. (Correction: You love TV). But, you don't like commercials. And you certainly don't like having to tailor your daily life around catching your favorite shows at their one-chance-only broadcast times. What you want is simple: TV that fits your life. In other words . . . TiVo. If you're not familiar with TiVo, here it is in a nutshell: as a digital video recorder (DVR), TiVo allows you to record all your favorite digital cable and broadcast television programming to a built-in hard drive. From there, you can watch your shows whenever you want . . they're just hanging out, waiting for you. But wait, there's more. TiVo also allows you to treat recorded TV programming just like any other recording — you can rewind, instant-replay, pause, and yes . . . fast-forward through those pesky commercials. Part of the latest generation of TiVo DVRs, the Premiere XL TCD748000 not only gives you the ability to record up to 45 hours of HD television programming, but also equips your home viewing experience with a dynamic repertoire of advanced features, including online streaming. Fast-forward to the next paragraph to discover more.
From . . . the web
Umm, let's not mince words: you're familiar with the internet. Heck, chances are you're what they might call "internet savvy." Yeah, you check email, instant message, tweet, shop, and play games . . . but most of the time you double-click your way to online music and video. Whether it's Hollywood movies, network TV shows, or the latest YouTube craze&ensp— not to mention custom internet radio stations and online photo albums — the net is your go-to source for entertainment. Too bad you have to leave the comfy confines of your living room for the home office in order to get online. If only you could access all your favorite online content from the sanctuary of your home theater . . . good thing the folks at TiVo are in the business of making "if only" statements come true. Thanks to it's integrated ethernet port, the TiVo Premiere XL allows you to connect to your existing broadband internet service and then tap into endless movies, video, music, and photos from multiple online partners. Stream movies and television shows from sites like Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Video on Demand, or Blockbuster On Demand. Check out the latest YouTube offering. Queue up a personalized radio station at Rhapsody or Live365.com. Or, check out online photo albums at Picasa or Photobucket. All this from TiVo and the web.
The upper crust
No, this is not geological discussion of the outermost solid shell of a rock planet or moon. It is, however, a little praise for the TiVo Premiere XL and its prestigious THX certification. You see, after being subjected to exceptionally rigorous performance tests involving image and sound analysis, it turns out that the Premiere XL is an elite home DVR. The fact of the matter is, less than 10% of audio and video components are able to achieve THX certification. And you guessed it . . . the Premiere XL is one of them. While you might be thinking that "THX certification" is just another gimmick used to promote an AV product, we're here to assure you otherwise. Satisfaction of THX testing ensures the accurate recording and playback of audio and video content with correct color, contrast, and black/white levels for a visual and auditory experience characterized by clarity and precision. In other words, designed for use in theaters, THX certification guarantees a truly cinematic experience at home. And helping to ensure that your system's video display conforms to these high standards, a short THX Optimizer video tutorial with special THX Optimizer Blue Glasses is included with purchase.
How 'bout a little more "TV on your terms"
The fact that the TiVo Premiere XL allows you to record TV programming for viewing when you have the time is but one of the ways in which this DVR customizes TV to your lifestyle. First off, the TiVo Premiere XL lets you record up to two shows at once . . . while you watch a third, so you can still catch shows that air at the same time. Second, using your web-enabled smartphone, you can schedule your TiVo Premiere XL to record a show even when you're not at home. Third, thanks to ethernet, USB, and HDMI connections, you can transfer recorded programming to your laptop, iPod, iPhone, PSP, or other mobile device for enjoyment on the go. Finally, you can even transfer recorded videos to your computer, burn them to a DVD, and share them with friends. That's a whole lotta "TV on your terms."
Man the helm!
Hey, it doesn't matter how advanced, innovative, powerful, or revolutionary a device is, if it's hard to use it's pretty much useless. Accordingly, TiVo has designed the advanced, innovative, powerful, and revolutionary Premiere XL DVR with a simple, easy-to-use HD user interface. Look to the TiVo Search functionality to find exactly what you want from millions of online and broadcast sources without any hassle. Use WishList searches to find what you like even when you aren't sure when it airs. Search by actor, director, keyword, or category and every time a show matching your criteria airs, it's recorded. Further, Season Pass technology takes the stress out of remembering to record each episode of your favorite series by automatically recording them when they air, even if their timeslot changes. And you can navigate all this and your current playlists in HD on your HDTV.
Connections are key
Equally as important for an A/V component's success as its user interface is its connectivity offerings. After all, if you can't hook the new device up with your existing system, then all you've got is a black box. So, of course, the folks at TiVo have generously equipped the Premiere XL with versatile system-connectivity options. Heading up the list is the HDMI output, allowing you to send Full HD 1080p video and lossless surround sound from your HD cable or HD online sources straight to your HD receiver or HDTV. For non-HD video sources and displays, look to component- and composite-video output. While coaxial cable and antenna jacks link to TV broadcasts, a CableCARD slot allows you to replace your cable box with the TiVo Premiere XL using a service-provider cable card. Further, two USB ports allow for connectivity to mobile devices and the ethernet port is, of course, your link to audio, video, and photos on the internet or on your home computer. Finally, use the digital optical audio output to send digital audio signals to your system's A/V receiver.
