Elite DVD
What makes your home DVD experience elite? One word: upconversion. Your DVD collection delivers lower-resolution (480i/p) video content while your huge flat-panel HDTV is capable of displaying a high-definition 1080i or 1080p resolution picture. The Pioneer Elite® DV49AV's video upconversion enhances lower-resolution video content — by means of a technique known as interpolation — so that it displays at near high-definition on your HDTV. Further, because video upconversion occurs at the video's source (i.e. in the DVD player), and not at the point of the HDTV, signal distortion that might occur as the signal travels from the DV49AV to your HDTV along a video cable is minimized. Investing in an Elite® DV49AV DVD player means investing in better performance from the media you already have.
Looking good
Pioneer's PureCinema progressive scan technology makes for smoother images, removing much of the stair-stepping of diagonal lines and making video look considerably more like film. Pioneer's progressive scan 2:3 technology detects when the material was originally shot on film and instantly recreates each individual frame to yield a more film-like presentation. Video processing is handled by a 108 MHz/12-bit digital-to-analog converter and video input signals can be upconverted to 1080p resolution through an HDMI output for maximim impact on HDTV displays.
Sound processing
For reproducing terrific sound, Pioneer went big by using a Burr-Brown 192 kHz/24-bit audio digital-to-analog (DAC) converter. Burr Brown is well known in the A/V industry for outstanding DAC performance. The addition of bass management lets you control the amount of bass sent to your speakers for better multichannel sound with your DVD-Audio and SACD recordings. Some early universal players didn't offer bass management for SACD, defeating many of the audio advantages of SACD. The DV48AV keeps the signal pure and in control for both formats, no matter what size speakers you have.
