No More Bad Photos
You can trust Nikon's COOLPIX S50 7.2 effective megapixels and a 3.0x (38-114 mm) Zoom-Nikkor ED glass lens, to deliver crisp, clear images of whatever you choose to shoot. No more pictures that look like bad watercolor paintings. No more having to explain what the subject of the picture is. With the Coolpix S50, your photos will speak for themselves. What they'll say is professional. Using the S50, what you'll say is easy. There are 15 specially programmed modes that automatically handle focus, exposure, white balance, and other adjustments to help you take great photos of a variety of activities at the press of a button. Popular options include Portrait, Landscape, and Sports modes--all of which offer Scene Assist technology to help you compose your pictures using the framing guides displayed on your LCD screen. Onboard camera editing features like In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, which relieves your subjects of that caught in the headlights look; Face-Priority AF, which finds and focuses on your subject's face; and D-Lighting, which automatically lightens dark images will save what might otherwise seem an unsalvageable image. You'll never bemoan bad photos again.
Create Your Own Slideshow
Get in the production groove with Nikon's Picmotion technology! Pictmotion allows you to select your favorite images and movies, decide on a style, and pick one of five pre-installed music files or add your own. Pictmotion automatically combines your elements in a polished production, with transitions and style synced to your music.
More And More, Newer And Newer
Never content to say good enough or rest on their estimable laurels, Nikon has crammed more and more newer and newer technology into the COOLPIX S50's all metal, sleek and stylish chassis. On top of the upgrades list is the One-Touch Portrait Button, which automatically activates Nikon's proprietary In-Camera Red-Eye Fix and Face Priority AF to create stunning portraits. That's just step one! Step two automatically activates D-lighting in Playback, brightening overly-dark pictures--in short, saving the day. It's a wonder we've gone this long without technology this smart. Now that we've got it, let's flaunt it with Stop-Motion for creating fun, stop-motion animated video shorts. Simply pose the subject you want to animate, take a picture, reposition the subject, and photograph again. Opaque versions of previous shots are shown on the camera's LCD to assist you when positioning and repositioning. Once shooting is completed, the S50 automatically creates a Quicktime video of the subject's movement in-camera. The best part is viewing this miniature short subject on an impressive 3.0-inch LCD screen.
Realize The Dream
If true-to-life is the ideal, then Nikon gives you the way to realize the dream. By combining a 1/2.5-inch CCD with a 35-105 mm (35 mm equivalent) Zoom-Nikkor lens and high 1600 ISO, the COOLPIX S50 delivers super-sharp, 7.2 megapixel images reproducible at up to 3072 x 2304 pixels. Such high resolution enables you to make truly impressive enlargements of your personal masterpieces. One look at the images you capture, and you too will be singing the praises of Nikon's advanced technology--or feel free to take all the credit for yourself.
Arrive In Style
Fifteen pre-programmed Scene Modes make it easy to capture optimal results in the most diverse shooting situations. With the COOLPIX S50, anyone, even a novice photographer, can take great images simply by choosing the appropriate mode for the next picture. Some popular modes include Portrait, which emphasizes a subject with natural skin tones against a soft, pleasing background; Close Up, with its precise manual focus area selection and appropriate coloration, making detailed subjects stand out from the background; Landscape, which emphasizes depth-of-field, capturing distant scenes sharply and clearly, for postcard-like landscape pictures; and Panorama Assist, which allows you to take several side-by-side images, all at the same exposure and white balance setting, then combine them later to create spectacular wide-vista photos that will be the envy of your friends and family. The other scene modes you can select are: Party/Indoor, Night Portrait, Beach/Snow, Sunset, Night Landscape, Copy, Fireworks Show, Backlight, Sports, Dusk/Dawn, and Museum. Whether you like to drive, or just tag along for the ride, the COOLPIX S50 ensures that you arrive in style.
You've Seen The Last Of Red-Eye
Tired of seeing the love of your life, or your mom, looking like a cobra ready to strike? The hated red-eye effect is due to light reflecting off the back of your subject's eye. The helpful folks at Nikon offer several remedies. You can select red-eye reduction by preflash, which uses a burst of light before the actual shot to reduce the pupil size of your subject; or, failing that, rely on the S50's exclusive In-Camera Red-Eye Fix software to analyze and correct the pesky problem. Thwarting red-eye is tough, but it's easier than dumping your honey, or living your life unable to look him or her in the eye.
Fellini Would Be Proud
With the COOLPIX S50, you have the ability to record QuickTime movie sequences--complete with sound! Record Dad learning to water ski or baby's first words. The movie is saved as a QuickTime file, which is easily e-mailed to family and friends so they can join in on the fun. You can choose from three different movie modes: TV Movie (640 x 480 at 30fps), Small size (320 x 240 at 30fps), and Smaller size (160 x 120 at 15fps). Using the camera's internal memory, TV Movie clips run about 26 seconds, Small size about 52 seconds, and Smaller size about 211 seconds. Get going, Fellini.
Let PictureProject Manage Your Images
The COOLPIX S50 includes Nikon's next-generation imaging software--PictureProject. It's a fast and powerful tool for organizing and working with your pictures easily and intuitively. The very first time you open PictureProject, an assistant will guide you and help you manage all the images on your computer. You can create groups and collections with names that make sense to you. You can even add keywords and notes so searching for images takes just a few keystrokes instead of turning into a scavenger hunt. PictureProject lets you transfer images from your camera to your computer seamlessly. You can then edit, enhance, crop, print, e-mail, post to the Web, or create a photo album. You can even publish them to your PDA, create slideshows with music, or stitch together a number of pictures to create a stunning panorama. PictureProject works with Windows 98SE, 2000, ME, and XP, as well as Mac OS X (v10.1.5 or later).
