Big features, small size
For a compact camera with big-time features, it doesn't get any better than the Nikon COOLPIX S9300. This point-and-shoot camera offers all sorts of top features. Like what, you ask? Like an 18x optical zoom, for example. With it, you can get close-up shots of the action, even when you can't actually get anywhere near the action. You won't have to worry about those long-zoom shots turning up blurry, as lens shift stabilization ensures your shots come out clearly. At night, Auto composite shooting provides you with crisp, clear shots. The S9300 also has a GPS with electronic compass to allow you to tag your photos with the place and direction they were taken. Meanwhile, EXPEED C2 processing and a backlit CMOS sensor allow every shot you take to reach its full potential. Other fun features like 3D capability, iFrame/iMovie compatibility, Easy panorama modes, high-speed continuous mode, close macro, and effects for both photo and video are sure to delight amateurs and professionals alike.

I'm new to digital cameras, though have used a complex SLR for many years. I am disappointed that the S9300 will not give you manual control of shutter speed and lens opening. The metering system has problems with high contrast bright sundeep shade situations. That being said, you can, after some trial and error, change several settings of the programmed metering and get an acceptable high contrast picture. In general, its a good camera for its class.
