Delightful design
A quick look at the SMX-C10 should tell you that it's not your ordinary camcorder. Its body shape makes it appear unified, without lots of funny shapes sticking out in all directions like older camcorders. But that's far from the only cool thing about the design of this camcorder. You might notice the lens isn't pointing forward from the camera while it's sitting on a table. That might seem really strange, but in reality, it's actually a much better design. Hold your hand up like you're filming. Do you notice how you have to bend your wrist at an odd angle to shoot straight on? The SMX-C10 doesn't force that bend, letting you hold it at a natural angle for your wrist. It might take a little getting used to, but it could help prevent carpal tunnel. And, for more short-term effects, since you can record up to two and a half hours of video continuously, with the C10, your wrist won't hurt afterwards. But that might not even be the best part of the design. It has a blue Touch of Color finish for a regal look. The beautiful color along with the unique shape make this one cool camcorder to film with. It's as much modern art as it is a functional piece of equipment.
H.264 . . . your window to the future
The Samsung SMX-C10 uses the H.264 film codec. What does that mean though? It sounds more like something out of science fiction than it does a recording format. And it is quite advanced technology, but it's not quite something from deep space. Instead, it's a recording format that lets you fit more video footage in the same amount of space as MPEG2 without really losing any quality. How much more? Well, a typical MPEG2 camcorder can record 7 hours and 20 minutes of footage on a 32GB card. The C10 using H.264 can store 12 hours and 40 minutes or footage on the same card. That's almost twice as much! So don't worry about running out of space . . . just shoot.
USB . . . standard
Any new computer will have several USB ports. These connections are used for everything from keyboards, to mice, to flash drives, to printers, even to cameras. It's now the industry standard for data transfer in smaller amounts. It's so popular that many new TVs and Blu-ray players feature USB ports! Well, the C10 also uses a USB connection to transfer your memories to a computer, and to recharge the battery. No install disk is even needed thanks to the on-board Intelli-Studio software. And while the camcorder is hooked up to a computer with internet access, you can upload videos to YouTube with one touch of a button. How do you know you're uploading the right footage? Well that's easy, since you can see your clips with animated thumbnails. But what if you want only use half a shot? What if you want to combine two clips? Do you have to load your footage to the computer, then edit it? The answer is no, since the camera has built-in merge and split capabilities for easy, on-the-go editing.
