The Vixia Canon HF-M40 gets close without distortion because the Tele Macro mode emulates the effects of a telephoto lens. The Tele Macro mode sets the minimum object distance to about 1 ft (from 3 ft), which shallows the depth of field so that your subject's nose won't look disportionate to the rest of their face. Unless of course, you want that effect to portray a villain for the movie you're making, then you can make it an especially wide shot with a wider angle of view. You'll be able to adjust the 33 mm lens equivalent of 43.6-436mm without fear of motion blur thanks to optical image stabilization and reach far-away subjects and landscapes with the 10x zoom.
