It's great that the XTR-20BP surround speaker is so slender, but can it faithfully reproduce sound, or does it just look tiny hanging on the wall? If you're familiar with Definitive Technology, you know they don't produce speakers that don't have killer sound quality. The designers at DefTech (as their friends call them) were charged with creating a speaker that would aesthetically match the slender profiles of the new LED HDTVs, some of which are only an inch and a half thick! Using the patent-pending XTDD technology anodized aluminum dome driver, high-tech computer modeling, and decades of experience, they crafted the Mythos XTR series as an answer. Now, they've taken that one step further with the matching XTR-20BP surround speaker. It contains the same active drivers and tweeters as the rest of the XTR series: two 3.5" XTDD mid/bass drivers are angled in opposite directions to broaden the midrange dispersion, and the array's 1" pure aluminum dome tweeter produces extended highs. The results? The kind of diffuse soundfield sought after by home theater enthusiasts, enveloping surround effects, and nuanced high-end pitches without a trace of edginess.

Encased in steel

A speaker's enclosure makes a difference, not only to the eye, but to the ear as well.
