Panasonic SDHC cards are a new design based on SD Specification v2.0 for 4GB and higher capacities and a have readout data transfer rate of up to 10MB/second (Class 4). Higher capacity SD cards are a result of upgrading the File Allocation Table (FAT), a data storage protocol developed by Microsoft that tracks and locates files in memory, from FAT12/16 to FAT32, which uses more bits to identify each cluster on the the card. This makes locating files easier and allows for smaller clusters, improving the efficiency. Even if a file gets fragmented (split up into various areas in memory), the file allocation table can still track it.
