Reflections transform the naturally random orientation of light rays into a much more ordered, or polarized, structure. A polarizing filter like the 3.5CPL from Lenmar can select light of a certain orientation by filtering out other orientations. These filters can reduce or eliminate reflections from nonmetallic surfaces like glass and water. Used in both color and black-and-white photography, polarizing filters can darken overly light skies. Since the filter leaves clouds relatively unchanged, the contrast between the clouds and the sky is increased. A darkened sky makes rainbows look all the more spectacular. These filters also work to reduce atmospheric haze and reflected sunlight while at the same time increasing color saturation, both of which make the scene appear clearer. It's not nice to fool your auto focus

This 30.5mm Lemar Camlink CPL filter works with either auto focus or manual focus cameras; but the other polarizing filter, the linear type, may disrupt your camera's beam-splitting auto focus metering calculations of distance and exposure. CPL filters have a quarter-wave retarder that creates a quarter wavelength phase shift and changes linearly polarized light to circularly polarized light that won't confuse your auto focus. As a bonus, you can also use this filter as a neutral density filter since at maximum polarization it reduces light transmission by nearly two f-stops.
