A "subtle" new frontier

GE's Profile series is widely considered to be one of the, if not the sole, best in the industry. These flagship models combine science-based performance with top-notch usability. Unfortunately for some, though, the Profile series also combines very conspicuous, edgy styling. Before you go searching for a model you can settle on, though, take a look at the GE Cafe line. The Cafe models marry the leading performance of the Profile line to much more refined aesthetics. Take this dishwasher, for example. It's got the high performance you'll find in Profile dishwashers, but unlike the Profile models, the CDWT980RSS doesn't look like a model from the set of the Starship Enterprise. Instead, it's got an integrated stainless steel panel, complete with a toe grille, to bring a seamless, unified look to your kitchen. That way, you get a great dishwasher that doesn't feel the need to call attention to itself.

Goldilocks' pride and joy

Remember the children's story where the young blond girl breaks into the home of a small bear family? She may have trespassed and helped herself to the bears' belongings, but Goldilocks wasn't all bad. After she finished Baby Bear's porridge, she was at least kind enough to wash the dishes she had used. She loaded her bowl and spoon into the dishwasher and found some dish detergent. But then Goldilocks froze. How much detergent was she supposed to use? After all, too much or too little, and the dishes wouldn't be cleaned properly. Poor Goldilocks was just about to give up and leave when she realized the wise Bear family had a GE Cafe dishwasher. So, she simple closed the door and started the cycle. You see, the CDWT980RSS has SmartDispense technology. This allowed the clever bears to stash up to 47 ounces of detergent in their dishwasher. When a cycle is selected, the appliance will dispense an amount of detergent that is not too large, not too small, but just right for the load in the dishwasher. That way, the Bears only have to worry about detergent every couple months, when the indicator light turns on. And for its precision dispensing, Goldilocks fell in love with this GE Cafe dishwasher. Oh, and everyone lived happily ever after.

Re-defining "premium"

It used to be that "refined" was synonymous with "wasteful". Luxury cars had MPG ratings in the low teens, large appliances used enough water to deplete small rivers, and a large TV spun the power meter like the Tasmanian Devil after a triple shot of espresso. But in the last several years, that's changed. German cars now offer the same performance as before but with much better gas ratings. TVs have minimized their energy usage, meeting strict new ENERGY STAR guidelines, sometimes even shutting off when a person is not detected in the area. And appliances . . . wow.
