Size isn't everything |
With many washers today, the most bragged-up feature is the capacity. The slightest increase in drum size is touted as a huge advantage. If you have really large laundry loads, having the largest capacity is important. But if you don't need to wash circus tents, or the jerseys from an entire football team, chances are you don't need the largest drum size. Instead, something a little more economical might suit you better. The Epic z™ MHWZ400TQ is just such a machine. It features 3.7 cubic feet of capacity, which is plenty for your average load of household laundry, but is less expensive than the 4-plus cubic foot behemoths. It's also slightly smaller, and is stackable with the MEDZ400TQ dryer, giving you plenty of flexibility in its placement. So if you're looking for a dependable, quality, economical washer, and you don't need to be able to wash clothes for a family of 20, check out the MHWZ400TQ from Maytag. |
Better than ENERGY STAR |
Washers simply don't get much more environmentally friendly than the MHWZ400TQ. Some manufacturers talk ENERGY STAR, ENERGY STAR, ENERGY STAR, but there's a great range from teh most efficient machines to those just meeting ENERGY STAR requirements. Rather than just rest on the fact that it's ENERGY STAR certified (which the MHWZ400TQ is well beyond the minimum requirements for)l, let's look at some more relevant statistics for this washer. The Consortium for Energy Efficiency has qualified it into Tier III for energy efficiency, the best available. To see if this model qualifies for a rebate in your area, click here. Very few models have as high of a Modified Energy Factor, the unit of measure for energy efficiency, and even fewer models with comparable size (even at 3.7 cu. ft., the MHWZ400TQ has an MEF of 2.31). Finally, this washer has a mere water factor of 4.3. With figures like these, the MHWZ400TQ is easily and by far one of the most environmentally friendly washers in its class. But its outstanding efficiency also makes it much easier on your wallet than most models. It's so much better than just ENERGY STAR! |
Ready for either extreme |
It's important for a washer to have powerful cleaning for removing tough stains, and most washers do have som serious power these days. But it's just as important for them to be able to handle your most sensitive delicates. Neither of these extremes is a problem for the MHWZ400TQ. It has both sanitary and super cycles to remove even the toughest stains, but also has cycles for delicates and handwash. It uses the Rainfall Clean wash system with Sensi-care technology, which allows water to drop down from the baffles like rain (as opposed to pressure-injected) for more natural, gentler cleaning. So whether you're washing the grimiest coveralls or the softest frillies, the MHWZ400TQ has you covered. |
Decisions, decisions |
With the MHWZ400TQ, you have some serious decisions to make. Choices like whether or not to turn on an end-of-cycle signal, or whether to activate the MaxExtract option. In total, there are 10 different cycles. Those are sanitary, whites, super, normal, rapid wash, delicate, handwash, spin only, rinse and spin, and clean washer. But, on top of that, you can choose whether to use the IntelliTemp automatic temperature control or select either an extra hot/cold, hot/cold, warm/warm, warm/cold, or cold/cold wash/rinse temperature. You can also delay the start of your laundry load up to eight hours. Other options include prewash, stain cycle, or extra rinse. Finally, you can adjust the spin speed between high, medium, low, or no spin. With so many choices, you may need some time to think. Of course, all the cycles come with their own standard presets, so you don't have to worry about the washer being too complicated, but know that if you want to be a rebel and adjust the presets, you have that option. |
Shhhhhhhhhhhh!!! |
Many old topload washers were scarcely quieter than jackhammers. But you don't have to choose between delaying your load of laundry or delaying your conversation with the MHWZ400TQ. It features QuietSeries 300 sound packaging to keep you from having to worry about the noise level of the washer. In fact, it's so quiet, you might even have to check that it's on. It won't even disturb a baby in the next room. Now that's quiet. |
Built to last |
Convenience features are a great thing to have on a washer, but really meaningless if the washer itself only lasts a few months. The friendly folks at Maytag didn't overlook this fact when building the MHWZ400TQ. The variable-speed, high-torque motor ensures years of dependable power. A SmoothBalance suspension system keeps everything balanced to increase the life of the machine. The top is finished with powdercoating on steel, for increased durability, and as an added benefit, is a SpillSaver design. Finally, the door handle is heavy duty, as are the die-cast hinges. With so many durability features, "tough as nails" is an understatement. |
Wow! |
One of the contributing factors to the MHWZ400TQ's impressive MEF rating is its 1100-RPM MaxExtract option. Since MEF factors in the amount of energy required to remove the remaining amount of moisture from the dryer, this high spin rating gets more water out of the clothes while still in the washer, so you use less time and energy in the dryer. Now that's fast! |
A match made in heaven . . . sort of |
The Maytag MHWZ400TQ works well with nearly any dryer, but it does after all have an soulmate, or at least, a controlboardmate. The MHWZ400TQ is designed to work perfectly with the MEDZ400TQ dryer. The two are identical in styling, and performance-wise designed to work together as an ideal pair. You might say it's a match made in heaven, but really it all started on a design board. |
