Peer-to-Peer Positioning |
| Above and beyond the convenience of having a full featured 2-way radio and top notch GPS receiver in the same handheld unit, what really sets Garmin's Rino apart from the herd is its Peer-to-Peer Positioning ability. This patent pending technology makes it possible to transmit your location to a friend's Rino (within a two mile range), showing distance and bearing from your position to theirs on the Rino display. This could be a lifesaving feature in an outdoor emergency or at least incredibly convenient when you want to round everyone up at the park or resort. |

Navigation |
| The Rino uses Garmin's 12-channel, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver for quick, dependable satellite acquisition even in dense foliage and other difficult environments. WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) enabling makes it possible to achieve position accuracy of less than 10 feet. In addition to Garmin's legendary GPS receiver you also have the benefit of all their popular navigation features like extensive waypoint storage, their exclusive TracBack technology and multiple position formats (including MGRS and Loran TD). A built-in trip computer adds even more to the Rino's navigating prowess with speed tracking, trip time and distance, clock, stopwatch and alarm functions and more. |

Communication |
| The Rino multiplies your communication ability by using both FRS (Family Radio Service) and GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) channels. FRS has a range of up to two miles and does not require any special permits for use. GMRS has a range of up to five miles and requires an FCC permit which is fairly easy to apply for and receive. You get more range as well as many more channels to choose from. Each channel also has 38 sub audible squelch codes to help prevent eavesdropping on your conversations. Since the Rino has standard FRS capabilities, you can communicate with friends who have conventional FRS radios. The Rino also has a call ring feature that you can use to "ring-up" other Rino users. |
Construction |
| The Rino boasts Garmin's traditional tough, lightweight design to handle the rigors of your outdoor adventures. The Rino is even waterproof to IPX-7 standards which means it can survive being submerged in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. The tough design has a thoughtful side as well for easy one-handed operation with Call, Press-To-Talk (PTT) and Mode buttons on the side, Power/Backlighting button on top and dedicated map zoom buttons in front. The centrally located "click stick" allows for channel selection and volume adjustment in FRS mode and quick map panning, enter and selection functions in GPS mode. The high resolution backlit display makes all your data easy to see at a glance so you can keep your eyes on the trail. |
