Want To Know Where You Are?
Garmin's GPSMAP 60Cx 12 parallel channel, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver tracks up to 12 satellites at a time, gives you a position fix in as little as 15 seconds; and, thanks to the new SiRFstarIII architecture, stays locked onto the satellites in the toughest of conditions--even under heavy foliage or in deep canyons. WAAS is an acronym for Wide Area Augmentation System. Basically, WAAS is a system of satellites and ground stations that provides GPS signal corrections, giving you even better position accuracy (up to five times better) than normal GPS. WAAS corrects for GPS signal errors caused by ionospheric disturbances, timing, and satellite orbit errors. With WAAS capability, this receiver can give you a position accuracy of less than three meters, 95% of the time. This is a much better record than you can expect from a GPS receiver that isn't WAAS capable. With Garmin GPS technology, you know you can rely on fast and accurate positioning when you need it.
Easy-To-Read Display--Even Under Water!
Although the GPSMAP 60Cx is not designed for underwater use, Garmin engineers understand the rigors of the wild; and since Garmin builds GPS units for the military, they have a great deal of experience designing units that have the ease-of-use required for on-the-move navigation and the toughness needed to survive your outdoor adventures. The GPSMAP 60Cx is waterproof to IEC Standard 60529 IPX7, which means it can survive a dunking in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. The large, full color, TFT display is very easy on the eyes with screens that can be read at a glance. For low-light situations, the screen and buttons are backlit; and there's a large numbers option for even easier viewing. No squinting or slowing down; just easy, on-the-go navigation.
Built-In Maps Ready To Go, Plenty of Room For More
This GPS receiver comes ready to travel with a built-in basemap for North and South America that shows you cities, interstate highways, coastlines, and more. In addition, the internal memory is preloaded with Americas Autoroute basemap with autorouting capabilities, a marine point database, and tide data (USA only). Using microSD Cards for removable internal memory, the GPSMAP 60Cx can store up to 1 GB of data (a 64 MB card is included), providing loads of room for downloading additional map data from optional MapSource CD-ROMS (not included). This receiver is compatible with most MapSource products including BlueChart, City Navigator, U.S. TOPO 24K, U.S. TOPO, and Recreational Lakes with Fishing Hot Spots. You can store up to 1,000 waypoints with names and graphic symbols, and up to 50 reversible routes. An automatic track log saves up to 10,000 points and 20 tracks that let you retrace your steps in both directions. And the permanent user data storage system keeps your settings and data safely stored with no memory battery required.
Bells And Whistles
Among the thoughtful extras designed into this trusty traveling companion are audible alarms that can be set to alert you to things like anchor drag, arrival, off-course, and proximity waypoint. You can also set a standard clock alarm to help you wake up or remind you of an important event--like break time. Multiple position formats are on the lengthy list of navigational extras; as are the many advantages provided by the built-in trip computer that gives you odometer readings, stopped time, moving average, overall average, total time, maximum speed, and other useful info for tracking your progress. With all that, Garmin still found room to include celestial tables for sun and moon calculations and to determine the best time to fish and hunt. Garmin's GPSMAP series units have always been strong performers and this 60Cx upholds that tradition, especially with features like removable microSD Card memory and the new SiRFstarIII architecture that boasts 200,000 position correlators, compared to a few hundred to a few thousand correlators for older technologies. Go with Garmin.
