Powered by the latest 3LCD technology and 24p True Cinema, the VPLAW15 projector makes images look more lifelike than ever. Working with the Sony technologies, Advanced Iris Auto and a High Contrast Plate, the VPLAW15 is capable of a 12,000:1 contrast ratio. In layman terms this means is you'll see the darkest, most luscious blacks yet the details won't wash out in the shadows. Add to the mix 1100 ANSI lumens of brightness — the same amount of lumens as projectors two or three times more expensive — and you're getting a heck of a picture at a heck of a bargain.

When A Flat Panel Just Won't Cut It

If you're looking at projectors then you're not the kind of guy to mess around with flat panels, no matter how big they come. You want to feel like you're in the movie, not just watching it. The VPLAW15's ability to cover a screen size of up to 200 inches (measured diagonally), presents you with the most theater-like atmosphere possible. Most Hollywood movies are shot at 24 frames per second (fps), but because conventional televisions (yes, even the new flat panels) are limited to 30 or 60 fps, these 24 images can't be faithfully reproduced without manipulating the movie. So, television manufacturers developed technology to alter frame rate to match your television. Unfortunately, this can result in unnatural or jerky movements that the movie makers didn't intend. It's the kind of little thing you're going to notice — it's not real enough — and it's going to drive you nuts every time you watch a movie. Have no fear. Sony has come to the rescue with their 24p True Cinema technology for the VPLAW15. With 24p True Cinema, all the movie frames are displayed as they should be, in the same sequence as the original film source. No jerks. No glitches. Just smooth. Keeps Colors Fresh

The VPLAW15 is a theater-quality projector that won't wash out colors or contrast thanks to the Advanced Iris Function and High Contrast Plate. Advanced Iris Function reproduces bright images in bright scenes and deep blacks in dark scenes by dynamically changing the opening according to the level of input signals. Three "Auto" modes offer you flexibility with three sensitivity settings — Recommended, Fast, and Slow — for additional adjustments. The High Contrast Plate adjusts diagonal light to reduce light leakage that can take place between the ON/OFF status of liquid crystal elements. What this means for you is that the black levels are at their blackest without sacrificing details (contrast) in dark scenes. Still not satisfied? Well, Sony's Real Color Processing allows you to target specific colors on the picture and fine tune the color and hue without changing the picture's overall color and hue. Sorry, kitchen sink not included.

Although the VPLAW15 gives you full control, it's better utilized on your ceiling, not your floor. Sony's Full Digital Video Processing circuits optimize picture performance for any input source. The 12-bit panel driver achieves excellent gradation reproduction and a high level of detail. The VPLAW15 offers the high-end, uncompressed HDMI audio/video connection to accommodate your high-end, high-definition DVD player, plus component, composite, and S- It also includes a PC input so you can stream video off your computer — perfect for slide shows or home video.
