Donald Trump Said It Best: Live Large!
If you crave a truly big big screen plasma 1080p HDTV, this is the set for you. With the TH65PX600U, Panasonic has achieved picture size and quality that takes your breath away. This 1920 x 1080p native resolution set displays a maximum of 29 billion colors (that's right--29,000,000,000) and 4,096 shades of gradation. A high contrast ratio of up to 5,000-to-1 assures exceptionally rich blacks and brilliant whites. The result is one of the most detailed plasma TV's ever. Three built-in tuners receive standard (NTSC) broadcast or cable signals, HDTV (ATSC) broadcast signals, and unencrypted digital cable (QAM) signals, which means no set-top box for basic digital cable service. There are three HDMI inputs for all-digital transfer of high definition video and multichannel audio signals via a single cable. Now you can enjoy HD entertainment without that cable jumble.
Deep Blacks, Bright Whites, 29 Billion Colors
The realism of TV images is strongly linked to contrast ratio, and this plasma features a very high contrast ratio of up to 5,000-to-1. Such a wide range from black to white means great depth and dimensionality with vibrant colors. Deep blacks provide excellent shadow detail during dark scenes, while brilliant whites allow this Panasonic plasma to render bright scenes with vivid realism. Add to this impressive contrast ratio the ability to display 29 billion colors at 1080p resolution and what you have is a TV that shows you the highest high definition content in all its glory.
HDTV In The Air Tonight
More and more sports, movies, games, and original network programming is now available in high definition formats. Receive and view your local over-the-air broadcasts on Panasonic's TH65PX600U plasma in stunning HDTV clarity using the built-in HDTV tuner. And if your cable company passes through HDTV broadcasts from local broadcasters, you can decode and tune those as well. HDTV broadcast or cable content and DVDs offer more detail and better color than analog broadcasts, but it takes a high resolution display to deliver all that picture information. High definition DVDs and games demand even more resolution (1080p) to look their best, and this set can handle it. The high pixel count of this plasma display provides fine detail for outstanding HDTV reproduction. More pixels also translate into less stair-stepping artifacts, making curved and diagonal edges look smooth and natural.
Getting It Right--Film On Video
Progressive Cinema Scan (3/2 Pulldown) achieves exceptionally faithful movie reproduction through a sophisticated analog-to-digital conversion. Movies on film are converted to NTSC interlaced video (480i) for television by a process known as telecine conversion, in which the 24 frames-per-second film is converted to video at 60 fields-per-second. The fields are then paired to create 30 frames-per-second 480i video. Some of the frames will contain dissimilar pairs of fields derived from two different frames of the original film, which causes artifacts. Panasonic's Progressive Cinema Scan circuitry converts 480i video to 480p while restoring the original frames of the film for a more authentic movie reproduction. This widescreen TV features a 16:9 width-to-height aspect ratio similar to movie theater screens, providing a theater-like experience at home. View HDTV broadcasts and widescreen DVDs the way they were meant to be seen.
More About HDMI
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a new standard digital connection between A/V devices, such as set-top boxes, DVD players, game consoles, or A/V receivers, and a digital telelvision. HDMI offers exceptional video and audio quality with a single quick-disconnect connector. It supports multi-channel digital audio transmissions and component video color spacing for true rendering of HD video. HDMI also supports the HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) standard, allowing transmission of copy protected digital content to your display. The video portion of HDMI is also backward compatible with DVI (Digital Visual Interface)-HDCP devices using an optional (not included) cable adapter. Panasonic's TH65PX600U offers three HDMI connections, including one on the front panel.
Big Screen Slideshow
The best images you can ever view on a Panasonic plasma don't have anything to do with HDTV. Share your JPEG photos taken with an SD memory card-compatible digital camera on the TH65PX600U through the set's memory card slot. Simply insert the card, which is about the size of a postage stamp, into the slot and enjoy a photo slideshow.
Here's What You Won't Be Doing With This Set
You won't be listening to TV audio on built-in speakers, because there aren't any built-in speakers. Let's face it, at a nickel shy of ten grand, very few people who buy the TH65PX600U are going to do anything but pipe the sound through a multichannel home theater system; and both an analog and digital (optical) audio output are provided for that reason. Panasonic does offer optional, designed-to-match, side-mounted stereo speakers (not included); and for those who exercise that option, the TV will deliver 15 watts x 2 to the 3-way, 6-speaker system with BBE ViVA HD3D sound technology and virtual surround sound. Other items you don't get are a pedestal stand or wall mount, although Panasonic offers them as options as well. Again, the TH65PX600U will almost certainly be the centerpiece of a home theater system and will most likely be wall-mounted or even built-in. Given all the possible wall construction configurations, for Panasonic to include a wall mount that probably won't meet your installation needs would just be costing you extra money for nothing.
