Madame Zelda Says The Future Is Very Clear |
It doesn't take a crystal ball to see that the future of television is HD technology. High definition is possibly the most significant advance in television history since color was added, technologically speaking at least. And plasma displays deliver one of the best overall high-definition experiences. Pioneer has dedicated considerable R&D and engineering resources to maintaining the cutting edge in plasma technology. The PROFHD1, the newest generation of plasma monitors, features elements that increase brightness, sharpness, and accuracy, three key areas in choosing a high definition television. |
See All The Pretty Pixels? |
Two million is a lot of anything. Two million home runs is a major league record that won't ever be reached. Two million pairs of shoes is too many, even for Imelda Marcos. Two million pixels is way too many to expect on a high definition plasma. Wait a minute--maybe that's true for traditional HD plasmas, but not for the PROFHD1. With double the pixles you would normally expect, this HD monitor blows away the competition. Its native resolution of 1920 x 1080p is the highest available. Progressive scanning, where lines are scanned in order as opposed to separate odd/even fields, eliminates the jagged edges found in interlaced scanning. So between the many, many pixels showing the tiniest details, and the progressive scanning to smooth out active images, your picture is guaranteed to be the height of reality. |
Keeping It Real |
A redesigned Deep Encased Cell structure and the Crystal Emissive Layer work together in the PROFHD1 to provide the vivid picture. The Crystal Emissive Layer, in addition to providing richer contrast and crisper detail, improves luminance efficiency by 22 percent, lowering the television's power consumption. Sandwiched between the plasma glass and the individual cells, the Crystal Emissive Layer conducts energy more efficiently so each cell can be charged and discharged three times faster than before. The result is higher light emission and a sharper picture. The Deep Encased Cell structure prevents light leakage across cells for a crisper, more detailed picture. The Active Dynamic Range Expander also generates a more accurate and sharper picture. Dynamic range is the difference between the darkest and lightest areas of an image. Active DRE increases the contrast ratio by automatically detecting its characteristics and keeping optimal control of the dynamic range, peak brightness, and gradations in dark areas. Advanced Continuous Emission IV is included for reproduction of billions of colors and improved gray-scale rendering in dark picture areas. And, exclusive to the Pioneer Elite series, the new First-Surface PRO Color Filter enhances contrast and color and reduces light reflection on the screen. All of these technological advancements converge in one of the most accurate, detailed, and intense pictures available in today's HD monitors. |
Signal Processing |
You've got the technology to paint a picture with brilliant color down to the tiniest detail, but if the signal you receive isn't processed accurately, all those great emissive crystals and deep encased cells are pretty much worthless. Lucky for you, the PROFHD1 includes Pure Drive II Signal processing to enhance the overall quality of the picture. In less-advanced plasma televisions, a digital signal is received, broken down into an analog signal to translate to the monitor, and rebuilt into a digital image. During the process, image details are lost and video noise, or residual imperfections, are visible. Pure Drive II 10-bit all-digital processing maintains a digital path throughout signal processing, eliminating video noise and optimizing image quality. And the best part is, with dual HDMI connections, you can get the signal from the source to the monitor in one simple cable. High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is a connection that transmits uncompressed digital audio and video signals on one line, so you don't have to tie your new TV down with a bunch of tangled cables. |
Smooth Transition From Film To TV |
In addition to improving the picture quality for high definition broadcast and cable signals, the PROFHD1 boasts Pioneer's proprietary 3:3 Pull Down technology, meaning film-based material on DVD, videotape, and regular TV will match the smooth natural reproduction of film. Television uses a 30-frame-per-second format, while films only use 24. A process called 3:2 pull down improves reproduction, but can generate jitter. The 3:3 Pull Down synchronizes the frame rate of film on video perfectly and eliminates the need for interpolations between frames. So while someone else's TV might show original film material with a jitter that reminds you of a fifth grader hopped up on a case of Mountain Dew, yours will show film format materials with a smoothness that reminds you of James Bond ordering a martini "shaken, not stirred." |
Making It Work For You |
These are all wonderful technological advancements that occur without any input from you, the viewer. But you get choices, too. Aspect ratio control allows you to select how you would prefer to view programming--widescreen, zoom, cinema, full I, or 4:3. Dot by dot is also available for your PC connection. The PROFHD1 incorporates Natural Re-Size into the picture, reshaping the picture and allowing it to maintain a natural appearance without adding artifacts that deteriorate picture quality. You also get the advantage of A/V Selection Memory, which gives you options for your viewing preferences--standard, dynamic, PURE, movie, game, or user. And with the 160-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angle, you can see the same pure, vivid picture whether you're ensconced in your favorite recliner, sprawled on the floor, or just sneaking a peek from the doorway as you pass by. |
