Multi-format DVD recorder |
| The Toshiba DVR660 combines the convenient recording and playback options of a DVD recorder and a video cassette recorder, all in one unit. Multi-format recording and playback provides the utmost in recording media convenience with compatibility with the most popular formats (DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW). One touch recording makes recording your favorite show simple. Just connect your DVD recorder/VCR to your cable or satellite box and you are set to record with the push of one button. And a front DV input with camcorder control makes it easy to copy your precious memories from tape to DVD. |
High-Definition Multimedia Interface |
| HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video connection. HDMI provides the best interface between a DVD player and compatible products, such as a digital television (DTV). When matched with a compatible TV, this single interconnecting cable combines: multi-channel audio, uncompressed digital video, intercommunication between devices and simple control Protocols. This single cable connection ensures that all signals remain in their pure digital form and secure by use of High Definition Copy Protection (HDCP) regardless of signal output resolution. |
Video upconversion to 720p/1080i/1080p |
| HDMI can support uncompressed digital video up to HDTV level resolution. Thus, the DVR660 makes us of this conduit by up-converting the standard DVD picture resolution to HDTV-quality with output resolutions of 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. This makes a DVD player with an HDMI connection the perfect match for today's digital televisions. As this conversion is performed in the player, the signal remains free from excessive digital-to-analog conversion artifacts. |
Even more recording capability |
| As if high quality DVD recording weren't enough, the DVR660 also incorporates a hi-fi VHS stereo VCR. The unit features an ATSC/NTSC/QAM tuner and a 1-month, 12-event timer programming functionality. One great feature we'll bet you'll get some use out of is Bi-Direction Dubbing, which is basically a convenient way to transfer content from a VHS tape to DVD or DVD content to VHS. Dubbing from VHS to DVD provides the capability of either transferring the entire tape, or transferring multiple individual segments by programming the time codes through the use of an on-screen menu. |
What about playback? |
| As you can see, the DVR660 has a lot of recording capabilities. Its playback features are nothing to turn your nose up at, either. It plays DVD-Video, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD, CD-R and CD-RW discs. You can also play recordable compact discs (CD-R and CD-RW) with music stored in MP3, DivX and WMA file formats. There's even a JPEG image viewer. And of course you can always throw in a VHS tape just for old time's sake. Once you're watching, you can take advantage of the DVD player's fast scan or slow motion to get to where you want to be quickly and easily. |
Supreme signal transfer |
| If you haven't yet upgraded your television to one equipped with HDMI, you'll still get terrific video playback. ColorStream Pro component video outputs allow the highest quality video signal to be sent from the DVD player to a component video equipped progressive scan TV. When this connection is utilized with today's HD-compatible sets, typical NTSC artifacts (like video noise, dot crawl, and flicker) are virtually eliminated, resulting in a low-noise, highly detailed picture with unequaled color purity. Digital Cinema Progressive Scan with 3/2 Pulldown delivers the smoothest, most film-like images to any progressive scan television, such as an HD-compatible one, and ensures maximum resolution. |
