You too can be like Mike

It's been a long time — too long, many say — since Michael Jordan has appeared in a video game. To quote Jordan himself in 1995, "I'm back." And he's back in a very big way. First of all, with the addition of the ability to play as classic teams in Exhibition or Association, several of Jordan's dominant Bulls are available for play. With the Bulls and with other classic teams, classic stadiums are available. Then, there's the all-new "Jordan Challenge". Play as His Airness in 10 historic games, trying to match his amazing feats. Think you can play like he did in the "flu game"? Think sinking six treys before halftime is beginner stuff? Put yourself to the test in the fun new Jordan Challenge mode. If you manage to make it through those 10 memorable games, another special challenge awaits you. In MJ: Creating a Legend, you'll start with a rookie Jordan and have to work your way to the top of the league over the course of his career. As you hit certain milestones or match certain accomplishments, you'll receive in-game Air Jordans. These shoes can give you specific bonuses ("Must be the shoes", after all) while you play. If you apply Jordan's work ethic to the game, you may even be able to collect all the pairs. You may never really be 6'6" and able to dunk from the free-throw line, but with NBA 2K11, you can still be like Mike. And if you feel the need to stick your tongue out while you play, we totally understand.

This is new . . .

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it," as the saying goes, and so aside from the new Michael Jordan features, NBA 2K11 is fairly similarly to the best-selling basketball game of the last two years. Of course the rosters and soundtrack are updated, but there are also a few additions you should new about. We already talked about the classic teams features. There are also new passes you can use to confuse defenders and set up a basket, as well as improved controls for dribbling and shooting. Added to the ability to make your own player is the chance to bring him to the NBA 2K league headquarters, participate in post-game press conferences, and sign sponsorship details. Finally, the presentation has been revamped to be more realistic than ever. From the players walking off the bus to the players walking off the court, this game feels much more like a game broadcast than any of its predecessors.

Move like a pro

There's one other really cool new feature to NBA 2K11 that simply wasn't possible on previous basketball games: Move support. If you have a PlayStation Move setup, NBA 2K11 is ready for you to get off the bench and start playing. Pass the rock for an alley-oop, snag a steal and dribble down-court, block a shot, or slam down a dunk with the new motion control support. It's a whole new way to play, and the next best thing to actually heading out to the court, so if you don't already have a Move motion controller and PlayStation Eye camera, you'll definitely want to pick one up for this.
