It can play back many different prerecorded DVDs, including DVD-R (including dual layer), DVD-RW, DVD+R (including dual layer) and DVD+RW discs. If you want to give your eyes a rest and try some tunes instead, the DVDS1 handles lots of the most popular audio formats around, including CDs and CD-R/RW discs. You can listen to MP3 files burned to CD-R/RW. You can also view JPEG files that you have saved on CD-R/RW.

Progressive Scanning

The goal of any playback device should be accurate reproduction of the original content. In the case of DVDs, most of that content is film-based. Utilizing advanced progressive scan playback techniques and very accurate MPEG video decoders, the DVDS1 provides an image that faithfully represents the image you see at your favorite movie theater. Progressive scanning, otherwise known as 480p (p=progressive), creates a picture signal with double the scan lines of a conventional interlaced picture, 480i (i=interlaced), to create a noticeably sharper image. The 480p image offers higher picture resolution and eliminates virtually all motion artifacts. To take advantage of the DVDS1's progressive scan capabilities, your TV must be capable of accepting and displaying a progressive scan signal (480p).

Panasonic gives you additional control and improved processing to enhance your home theater experience. Advanced Surround lets you enjoy the thrilling sound of Dolby Digital 5.1 channel discs without an elaborate home theater system by creating the illusion of surround sound from just two speakers. Dialogue Enhancer increases the center channel volume, making movie dialogue easier to hear and understand. You have the ability to make quick, easy adjustments so what you see and hear is most pleasing to your eyes and ears. A progress indicator displays a scale at the top of the screen for at-a-glance confirmation of your current playback location and remaining play time. Quick replay allows you to jump back 7-10 seconds during playback just in case you missed something or want to see it again.
