It plays! It records! It dubs! And it's two-in-one!
It's time to kill two birds with one stone: free up space in your entertainment center and transfer all your old VHS tapes to DVD. All with the D-VR670 DVD/VRC player/recorder from Toshiba. First off, the D-VR670's single-disc DVD player and four-head Hi-fi VCR support playback of a variety of audio and video formats — including DVD, CD, VHS, MP3, and JPEG — consolidating two A/V components into the space of one. Second, the D-VR670's one-button dubbing between VHS and DVD dramatically simplifies the process of transferring video between VHS and DVD. Transfer all your old home videos from VHS to DVD for safe storage or for passing on to family members. Or, transfer a DVD movie to VHS for viewing on the old VCR up at the family cabin.
Stay tuned
Thanks to its built-in digital and analog tuners, the Toshiba D-VR670 brings the functionality of a digital video recorder to your home theater. Integrated NTSC, ATSC, and QAM tuners both allow you to receive digital over-the-air content without a separate DTV converter box — just hook your digital antenna to the D-VR670 — and to operate the D-VR670 independent of your TV. You can record TV programming to DVD and still watch another program the TV! The advanced video performance of a DVD recorder and HD video converter and the versatility of multiple digital video components. The D-VR670 from Toshiba.
DVD with zing
When you buy a standard DVD player, you get a standard DVD picture. But now that you've invested in a high definition TV, you want a DVD picture that does your HDTV justice. Enter the D-VR670 from Toshiba. Combining its HDMI output with DVD video upconversion to 1080p, the D-VR670 enhances the video on all your favorite DVDs to near-HD levels for a dramatically improved video experience. Further enhancing your home theater experience are the D-VR670's advanced video and audio digital-to-analog conversion processors.

It works. I am glad I bought it, although there are a few things that are troublesome. It takes a while to load a DVD. It seems to default to the VHS recorder rather than to the DVD, but that may be my problem for not having read the manual enough. The pictures are clear, and Ive figured out most of the main menu. The unit has been performing well so far, and I expect it will continue to do so. We use it to record a daily show in case we miss it, but have used it to record the ends of movies when we want to go to bed. Also, I noted that the VHS recorder will record HD shows, a real plus. I have not yet tried using a DVD-R or DVD-RW, only DVDRW.

SO FAR SO GOOD BUT DO AGREE WITH A ARTICLE I READ ABOUT THE REMOTE KEYS BEING TO SMALL AND VERY HARD TO SEE SO I PUT FINGERNAIL POLISH ON THE TWO THAT YOU HAVE TO HIT FOR SETTING UP A RECORDING.OTHER THAN THAT THIS IS A GREAT UNIT FOR THE PRICE AS THESE RECORDERS ARE BECOMING VERY HARD TO FIND.

Luckily, I bought an extended warranty and will get my money refunded by them.

First let me say that the legendary customer service at Vanns is all I had read about and more!
The product however left me with no option but to return it.
The remote I needed to juggle reading glasses, a flashlight and the manual to use it. Very small buttons and labels. And then the labels started disapearing, making it imposible to use without the manual. Not at all intuitive.
The manual It is poorly written and very difficult to use.
The machine Cant finalize disks, cant change record mode, very poorly engineered on-screen controls. It is very noisy, runs the disk when it is not being used no option but to turn it off completely and then turn it on and wait for it to reload.
I called Vanns and explained my dissatisfaction with the unit. They agreed to take it back with a more than fair re-stock fee.
I ordered their Panasonic VHSDVD with the built in tuner. The image of the unit includes a shot of the remote. It looks a lot better as far as layout and ease of use. I should have gone with the the Panasonic. I will let you know how it works out .
Thank you Vanns!

This unit does all it claims to do. Once set up Ive had no trouble operating it. It did require a couple of calls to customer service but they were quick and efficient in helping me. I wanted it to record programs independent of what I am watching. It works well. Im a manual reader, so I didnt find it too daunting! One thing - we have a cable box system, so the unit had to be fed from a channel splitter to get an independent signal. This means that some of the digital cable channels on my cable box are not available to this unit via the unencrypted digital signal coming directly from the cable, but it is not a big problem for me.

The DVD puts out a good picture. I have it connected with HDMI. Ive found it a little difficult to get it to work the way I want. The manual is difficult for me to follow. I am sure that after I have played with it for a while I will be surprised at how simple it is. The biggest difficulty has been to get to the VCR when in the DVD mode. I have done it several times but it does not always work. There is surely and easy way but it has not been discovered at this time. The VCR playback is excellent quality. I have not had occassion to record on the DVD. When a recorded DVD is played the picture quality is also excellent.

I was sceptical ordering from such a distance from home. The fears are gone. This product was processed the same day and recieved three days later. Vans will be my go to dealer in electronics. After having had the opportunity to use this new machine for a couple of weeks, we are not disappointed. Its features are everything we expected. The machine records and plays with fast response to the remote and is fairly easy to set up by following on-screen instructions. Manual is fairly well written but as with most things these days, experimentation and button pushing will get you to your destination faster than trying to understand abbreviated instructions. The one thing we miss however, is a well displayed clock on the face of the unit. Although the clock will display on-screen, it does not display a continued time keeping of the day that is displayed when the tv is off. This is not a major problem, as we and most others most likely have other clocks to see the time of day. Its just that we became used to seeing a clock display on our old unit and miss it. This machine has a tuner so it can be used without a satellite or cable box if so desired. This is a major plus in todays market. Most machines with tuners are far more expensive and combo machines are very limited. If you are looking for a machine to record your old tapes to dvd, old digital movies from a cam corder that you want to put on dvd, in my opinion, this is the machine of choice. We are very happy with the machine. It arrived in a well packed sealed carton bearing the manufacturers name and that was placed inside another box with packing material. Shipping was fast and we encountered no difficulties. We have purchased 2 other items from Vanns in the last couple of years and have this company to be excellent to deal with. I am rating the product with 4 stars only because of the lack of a full time clock display. If it were not for this, I would easily give it 5 stars.

This is the third Toshiba DVDVHS PlayerRecorder Ive owned but the first one with a tuner. It works great and as Ive had experience with like units, operating it is easy. There are two drawbacks with the unit but with the way it is used, they are relatively minor. One, the unit must be connected directly to a television set, not to a tuner or other playerrecorder. Two, you can not watch one program while recording another. Other than these two items, its very good and well worth the price.

When my7 year old Toshiba died, I selected this as a replacement. I have not been disappointed it has done everything I have asked of it. My only complaint is with the instruction manual. I had difficulty setting the clock even after following the instructions for several attempts I would set the clock and 10 minutes would be added to the time. When I contacted technical support, I was immediately told what to do I needed to tun off the auto-set. I did not know that it was on. However, all is well that ends well. The instruction book should have been clearer on how to set the clock. It seems OK on everything else.
