Multi-format recording

Flexibility of playback and recording is enhanced with the DR560's compatibility with the most popular formats for recording and playback. The DR560 can playback and record to DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW discs. DVD-R is a write-once format perfect for sharing treasured video moments with virtually anyone who has a DVD-Video player. DVD-RW can rewrite content up to 1000 times and playback in a wide variety of computer drives and DVD-Video players. As you can see, the DR560 gives you many recording options.

HDMI and HD upconversion

HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video connection. HDMI provides the best interface between a DVD player and compatible products, such as a digital television (DTV). When matched with a compatible TV, this single interconnecting cable combines: Multi-channel audio, uncompressed digital video, intercommunication between devices, and simple control protocols. This single cable connection ensures that all signals remain in their pure digital form and secure by use of High Definition Copy Protection (HDCP) regardless of signal output resolution. Since HDMI can support uncompressed digital video up to HDTV resolution, the DR560 takes advantage by upconverting the standard DVD picture resolution to 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. This makes the DR560 a perfect match for today's digital televisions. And because this conversion is performed by the player, the signal remains free from excessive digital-to-analog artifacts. If you don't have an HDMI-compatible television, you'll still get great results from the component video connections with progressive output.

Cool recording features

The DR560 features built-in ATSC, NTSC, and QAM digital/analog tuners to allow for tuning of analog or digital channels from over the air or cable, including "cable-in-the-clear" digital channels. SD Bridge Recording lets you easily record programming received from the built-in digital and analog tuners onto DVD in standard resolution. Auto Finalize (with undo) simplifies the recording process by automatically completing your recording at the end of a disc, or end of a timer recording. And, a front panel DV input with camcorder controls means simple copying of memories from tape to DVD. A 12-program/1-month timer recording feature lets you plan your recordings well in advance. Customize your video recordings with editing features, including playlist, rename title, thumbnail, and chapter creation (user and auto).

Playback formats and features

Of course, you can play back all of the same formats that you can record. But your playback options don't end there. The DR560 also plays CD-DA, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-RAM, and VCD discs. You can play back CD-R/RW discs with MP3 or WMA audio files on them for even more flexibility. What's more, the DR560 is DivX home theater certified, so it will play the formats associated with the DivX brand. Have a disc full of JPEG images? Go ahead and throw it in. The DR560 comes complete with a JPEG viewer. No matter what's on the disc you're playing, you'll find great features to help you explore it. There's fast forward with audio, several scan and slow motion speeds, and an instant skip feature. You can also magnify DVD images with the zoom feature.

Realistic audio

The DR560 is capable of Dolby Digital recording (2-channel) so you can count on terrific audio reproduction when you go to play one of your recorded discs. The recorder's 3-D Virtual Surround Sound feature provides a simulated surround sound effect from sources that contain only a stereo soundtrack. This is convenient when playing older DVD films or for use with home theaters not equipped with multi-channel playback compatibility.
