The DR400 DVD recorder is designed to provide the greatest flexibility in recording and playback by supporting DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+R recordable disc formats. DVD-R is a write-once format perfect for sharing treasured video moments with virtually anyone who has a DVD-Video player. DVD-RW can rewrite content up to 1000 times and playback in a wide variety of computer drives and DVD-Video players. As you can see, the DR4 gives you many recording options.
HDMI and HD Upconversion
HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video connection. HDMI provides the best interface between a DVD player and compatible products, such as a digital television (DTV). When matched with a compatible TV, this single interconnecting cable combines: Multi-channel audio, uncompressed digital video, intercommunication between devices and simple control Protocols. This single cable connection ensures that all signals remain in their pure digital form and secure by use of High Definition Copy Protection (HDCP) regardless of signal output resolution. Since HDMI can support uncompressed digital video up to HDTV resolution, the DR400 takes advantage by up-converting the standard DVD picture resolution to 720p, 1080i or 1080p. This makes the DR400 a perfect match for today's digital televisions. And because this conversion is performed by the player, the signal remains free from excessive digital to analog artifacts.
Great Video Quality
If you don't have a television with HDMI, you'll still be able to enjoy pristine video reproduction. ColorStream Pro component video outputs allow the highest quality video signal to be sent from the DR400 to a component video equipped progressive scan TV. When this connection is utilized with today's HD-compatible sets, typical NTSC artifacts like video noise, dot crawl, and flicker are virtually eliminated, resulting in a low-noise, highly detailed picture with unequaled color purity. Digital Cinema Progressive (3/2 Pulldown) delivers the smoothest, most film-like images to any progressive scan television, such as an HD-compatible one, and ensures maximum resolution.
Realistic Audio
In addition to all of its video capabilities, the DR400 also gives you some great audio options, including Dolby Digital and DTS compatible output. Connected to a compatible AC-3 receiver, Dolby Digital creates a multi-channel audio experience and unsurpassed three-dimensional audio performance rivaling the best movie theaters. And the DR400 features DTS (Digital Theater Systems) compatibility. So you can connect the DR400 to a DTS compatible receiver/decoder via its digital audio outputs for playback of high-resolution multi-channel DTS-encoded DVDs and CDs. The recorder's 3-D Virtual Surround Sound feature provides a simulated surround sound effect from sources that contain only a stereo soundtrack. This is convenient when playing older DVD films or for use with home theaters not equipped with multi-channel playback compatibility. This feature is also active via the headphone output jacks.
