Plays Well With Others
The DVD1740 was built with the cost-conscious consumer in mind: it's affordable, yet loaded with features. Along with playing DVDs, it also plays CDs and decodes several digital audio formats. With the spread of DVD recorders, consumers are increasingly recording TV programs onto DVD discs. So don't worry, DVD-R/RW discs can also be played back on the DVD1740. The DVD1740 plays MP3 files recorded on CD-R and CD-RW disc, while the navigation system shows you artist names and track name, and lets you easily find your favorite track. The DVD1740 also supports WMA (Windows Media Audio) and MP3 formats. Also, with its handy JPEG slide show features, the DVD1740 can be used to play your Kodak picture CDs and other JPEG image discs. Imagine watching your vacation slide show on your big screen TV! So, as you can see, the DVD1740 gives you quite a bit more than just high quality DVD movie playback.
The Hook-Ups
HDMI is the only interface in consumer electronics that can carry both uncompressed high-definition (HD) video and uncompressed multi-channel audio in all HD formats including 720p, 1080i and even 1080p. An all-digital, uncompressed signal translates into the highest quality video and audio, seen and heard, direct from the source. The DVD1740's scaling circuit supports up to 1080p scaling. You also get component video, S-Video and composite video outputs, along with optical and coaxial digital audio outputs.
Progressive Scan
Progessive Scan technology represents a vast improvement over the interlaced scanning method used in TV broadcasts and other conventional applications, as it can process around twice as much video data to produce a sharper, noise-free picture with finer details. High-definition video images are faithfully displayed with optimum naturalness and beauty. The DVD1740 has a feature of manual IP detection mode selection. Even if a DVD-Video disc was mastered with the wrong progressive flag or without a flag, you can select a mode (Auto 1, Auto 2 or Video) to enjoy higher performance of picture quality.
Easy Access to Many Features
A simple press of the Display button on the remote controller lets you see the current operating status of the DVD1740 within an easy-to-read display on your television screen. The various operations and settings are easily changed using the remote controller while monitoring the display screen. And the DVD1740 includes a wide variety of playback functions, such as Resume Play for returning to the Pause position on a disc after the playback has restarted. You also get Slow Play, Repeat Play (A-B, Chapter, Track, Disc), Random Play and Program Play. During playback, when you press the Zoom button on the remote controller, you can enlarge the picture by 2x or 4x. Use the cursor to move the enlarged viewing area up, down, to the left, or to the right.
2 MB Buffer Memory
The DVD1740 is equipped with a 2 MB buffer memory to ensure that both picture and sound are played without interruption when the DVD disc shifts from layer 1 to layer 2, or in the rare event of a pickup dropout.
