Progressive Scan technology makes a vast improvement over the interlaced scanning because it can process almost twice as much video data. Since interlaced imaging scans every other line of an image, it has to compensate for the missing data between lines. Usually these displays ( traditional tube televisions, some LCDs, and computer monitors) fill in the "missing" line by actually blurring one line slightly into the next. This prevents flickering, but it also causes a less sharp image. On the other hand, progressive scanning gives you more lines of the image, almost twice as many, so that there is less to compensate for. That's why it makes a sharper, noise-free picture with finer details. Faroudja progressive scanning can also upscale images and make even interlaced video appear more natural and crisp. Once available only in the higher-end DVD players, this Faroudja technology has been included in Denon's affordable DVD758.
