The blue ray
At the very heart of the matter, the difference between DVD and Blu-ray is a matter of wavelength. While a wide red laser is used to write and read DVD content, a much narrower blue-violet laser is used for Blu-ray Disc media. That's it. Oh, but what a difference it makes! Because Blu-ray uses a narrower laser, it is able to fit more information into the same space. But how much more information? Try: five times more! Because of this vastly expanded storage capacity, Blu-ray Disc is able to store full HD 1920 x 1080p video, as opposed to DVD's standard definition 640 x 480i. And that's just the beginning.
