Integrated Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD Master Audio decoding serve up the HD audio experience right from the source — the Blu-ray Disc itself. Not only do you not need a brand-new receiver to decode these advanced audio formats, but the audio signal will also have a higher degree of fidelity because it is decoded before being transmitted along an A/V cable to the receiver. Offering further compatibility with older A/V equipment, the BDP-S1000ES features full 7.1-channel analog audio output. Finally, if you prefer using the decoding on your receiver, the BDP-S1000ES allows for bitstream output of Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD Master Audio signals.

The blue ray

At the very heart of the matter, the difference between DVD and Blu-ray is a matter of wavelength. While a wide red laser is used to write and read DVD content, a much narrower blue-violet laser is used for Blu-ray Disc media. That's it. Oh, but what a difference it makes! Because Blu-ray uses a narrower laser, it is able to fit more information into the same space. But how much more information? Try: five times more!
