First, Optical VR Image Stabilization compensates for minor hand- and camera-shake by moving the image sensor, delivering clearer, sharper results in lower lighting or unsteady conditions. Second, Motion Detection automatically detects moving subjects and adjusts the shutter speed and ISO setting to compensate for camera shake and subject movement. Third, a High ISO 6400 capability allows for sharper results when shootin in low light or when capturing fast-moving subjects. Finally, Nikon's Best Shot Selector automatically takes up to 10 shots while the shutter is pressed, and then saves the sharpest image.

Helping to make sure that every shot you take of a friend or family member's face is more than just a shap shot, Nikon's P90 presents the Smart Portrait System. This photographic system combines five technologies to turn any shot into a portrait. First, In-Camera Red-Eye Fix automatically fixes most instances of red-eye right in the camera. Second, as a face-detection technology, Face-Priority Auto Focus automatically focuses on up to 12 faces for sharp portraits, whether of individuals or groups. Third, Smile Mode automatically releases the shutter when your subject smiles so that you catch them at their best. Fourth, Blink Warning displays a warning message when your subject blinks during a shot, alerting you to take another snap. Finally, D-Lighting rescues dark or backlit images by improving brightness and detail where needed.
