Even a novice can shoot like a pro

Eleven pre-programmed Scene Modes make it easy to capture optimal results in the most diverse shooting situations. With the COOLPIX S520, anyone, even a novice photographer, can take great images simply by choosing the appropriate mode for the next picture. Some popular modes include Portrait, which emphasizes a subject with natural skin tones against a soft, pleasing background and Landscape, which emphasizes depth-of-field, capturing distant scenes sharply and clearly, for postcard-like landscape pictures. The other scene modes you can select are: Party, Night Portrait, Beach/Snow, Sunset, Night Landscape, Fireworks Show, Sports, Dusk/Dawn, and Museum.

Make movies, too

With the COOLPIX S520, you have the ability to record QuickTime movie sequences — complete with sound! Record Dad learning to water ski or baby's first words. The movie is saved as a QuickTime file, which is easily e-mailed to family and friends so they can join in on the fun. Using the camera's internal memory, TV Movie clips are easy to create. Optical lens shift VR image stabilization helps out when things get shaky.

Beautiful, blur-free shots

Optical image stabilization fights against hand-shake, the major cause of blurry images. This system, which takes advantage of Nikon's outstanding lens technology, is highly popular with users around the world. Even slight hand-shake movement is accurately detected and compensated to produce sharp, clear images. This is true, of course, for zooming and macro shots, which are especially susceptible to hand-shake, but it also lets you shoot in dimly lit rooms or uneven illumination, without a flash, to preserve the mood.
