Together, they capture Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution images for amazingly sharp 2.3 megapixel video detail, as well as 4 megapixel still photos — all with prolonged battery life. Exmor technology captures video and still photo images with high resolution, high sensitivity, and exceptional detail, using advanced on-sensor A/D conversion to yield rich tonal reproduction with high signal-to-noise ratio. The advanced BIONZ Image Processor uses hardware-based Large Scale Integrated (LSI) circuitry that improves camera response time, screens out noise before RAW data conversion, handles Dynamic Range Optimization processing, and, yes, while doing all that, somehow also prolongs battery life.

Sony truly boosts your video potential with its Bionz image processor. Bionz takes advantage of Sony's accumulated imaging technology to digitally process the high-resolution image data from the HDRUX20's 2.3 megapixel CMOS sensor at high speeds and deliver dynamically clear, high-resolution images with natural color reproduction and minimal noise. Increasing performance and responsiveness, the Bionz processor instantaneously identifies and processes digital information to reproduce sharp, beautiful video and still pictures. The Bionz processor is able to reproduce images with minimal noise and to capture high action photos with minimal blur. The Bionz processor is able to capture both subtle and drastic movements in faces instantaneously for blur-free and noise-free images. Using sophisticated algorithms, the Dynamic Range Optimizer adjusts for favourable exposure and contrast best suited for the environment and the individuals in the picture. When posing against a highly contrasted background, the processor corrects for exposure and contrast levels and allows for better backlight compensation and white color expression. Bionz: It's a level of precision unheard of in consumer camcorders.

Keep control

For easier control of the camcorder, the HDRUX20 features Zoom and Record buttons on the frame of the LCD screen. This allows you more flexibility when holding the camcorder, especially in overhead or low angle shots. Of course, using a camcorder can be intimidating for some people, so with a press of the Easy Handycam button, most of the advanced features of the camcorder are "locked out" leaving only the buttons essential for recording operational. Unlike NiCad (Nickel Cadmium) batteries, Sony's rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries are not subject to life shortening "memory effect." Sony's exclusive AccuPower meter displays the battery time remaining in minutes, in either the viewfinder or on the LCD screen. At the touch of a button, battery information is displayed on the LCD screen when charging as well as when the camcorder is turned off.
