HDD + SD = up to 29 hours of recording time |
|
| The HDCHS9 hi-def hybrid camcorder boasts an extra-large 60GB internal hard disk drive, which can hold up to 23 hours of your precious memories (in HE mode). And since this camcorder can record to both the internal hard drive and SD card, you can add up to an additional six hours of recording (also in HE mode) onto a 16GB SDHC memory card (sold separately).
You'll never miss a detail with 1920 x 1080 full HD recording.
Panasonic full-HD camcorders record horizontal pixels at an HD resolution of up to 1920 pixels, which results in a total of around 2,070,000 pixels. And with progressive scanning, this hi-def camcorders provide twice as much data per picture as conventional interlace scanning. This means you get breathtaking images with exceptional resolution and detail. Combine that with a 1080/24p format, which lets you capture scenes with a rich, film-like quality, and you can see why Panasonic full-HD camcorders take visual expression to the next level.

3CCD |
|
| We live in an age of increasing specialization. Try looking up "jack-of-all-trades" in the phone book and you'll find a blank space staring up at you from between "jack cheese wholesalers" and "Japanese landscaping." The benefit of specialization, of course, is that the job is done right. The evolution of the 3CCD image sensor is the manifestation of that trend in photographic technology. When imagining a CCD image sensor, think digital film. With a 3CCD image sensor, think of a beam of light split into its constituent parts and fed to three separate CCDs, each dedicated to doing its job. One's a red specialist; another, blue; the third, well, it's got green down to a science. Higher resolution, truer colors, and improved low-light sensitivity are just a few of the reasons for choosing a 3CCD camcorder. Traditional single CCD camcorders capture all the colors on the same chip resulting in degradation of the memories you're trying to preserve. Images produced using a 3CCD are dramatic improvements on those of their do-it-all cousins; expect colors so vivid the ones in your mind might very well seem dull and faded. The increased sensitivity inherent in a 3CCD permits users to shoot in truly low light without the need for the much-advertised compensatory measures of infrared gadgetry, or 'night vision.' There is one downfall to using a camcorder with 3CCD technology: you'll be hailed as the extended family's photographic 'specialist.' Plan on attending a lot more school plays and soccer games. |

AVCHD: Ahead Of The Rest |
|
One of the woefully undersung wonders built into this Panasonic high definition camcorder slips so surreptitiously into the specs list that all but the wonkiest videophile might miss its existence altogether. Consider yourself witness to the quiet dawn of the AVCHD era. AVCHD? AVCHD?? Undersung, you ask? Okay, most people have never heard of it? but they will.
AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition) is a new high definition recording format pioneered by Panasonic, compatible with 3" DVD discs, hard disk drives, and SD and Memory Stick Pro memory cards. As you might surmise from the name, AVCHD employs MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) video compression format instead of the aging MPEG-2 compression used in most HDV camcorders, offering both reduced storage requirements and better video quality. While saying the difference between MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC is the difference between stone tablet and microchip would be resorting to hyperbole, it wouldn't exactly be wrong. With AVCHD, you'll be able to store more video footage of higher quality while using up less of your media capacity. With those other formats? You can't. You'll also be able to utilize true random-access, since time-based seeking on AVCHD does not involve a fast-forward/rewind operation as it would on tape-based formats such as miniDV.
So, whether you have an eye on recording and editing your family adventures for future viewing or pushing the envelope in developing new avenues of video production in your business life, adopt AVCHD now and you'll be able to say you were there, in the beginning. You'll be able to say "Oh yeah, I knew about AVCHD all along." |

Advanced O.I.S. reduces camera shake |
|
| Panasonic's Advanced Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) technology suppresses the effects of hand shake as you shoot. The system uses gyrosensors to detect hand shake, then shifts a lens, and adjusts the optical axis to compensate. This all happens a remarkable 4,000 times per second. And because the system is optical, no image quality is lost. Thanks to Advanced O.I.S., the images you capture look incredibly clear, sharp, and beautiful on a big TV screen. |

Lenses and faces — that's what photography is all about, right? |
|
| Developed specifically for full-HD digital camcorders, the world-class Leica Dicomar lens system is made using a multi-coating process that prevents light reflection and glare, which can make colors bleed and images appear washed out. It also prevents rings of light, or "ghosts." With Face Detection — offered for the first time for recording moving pictures with a video camera — Panasonic makes it easy to capture beautiful faces and clear backgrounds even in dim or backlit scenes. This new function, which can detect up to five faces at once, automatically adjusts the exposure and smooths skin tones according to the ambient brightness, so faces are bright and easy to see. |
