The GZHD5 is an ultra compact full HD 1920x1080 HDD camcorder offering ultimate image quality with its FUJINON HD lens and superior color reproduction with 3CCD and HDMI (V1.3 with x.v.Color). The GZHD5 comes complete with a 60GB internal hard disk drive and 1080/60p output.

Professional 10x optical zoom lens

The JVC Everio GZHD5 utilizes a lens designed for high definition by FUJINON, who's a leader in professional camera lenses for live HD images. This lens features 3 aspherical elements and provides nearly the same brightness (F1.8-1.9) throughout its zoom range. In addition, the GZHD5's lens surface is coated with a new Electronic Beam Coating (EBC) that greatly reduces degradation caused by light reflecting off the lens surfaces, leading to greater light transmission and reduced flaring and ghosting. The lens features a 10x optical zoom and 200x digital zoom.

Quality image capture

For bright, realistic colors, the GZHD5 Everio uses three 1.5" CCDs, one each for red, green, and blue. Naturally, by having dedicated CCDs for each primary color, the camera is able to gather the maximum visual information which leads to more realistic color reproduction and presence. In addition, to ensure precise prism/CCD registration, JVC has incorporated FUJINON mounting technology used in professional camcorders. With Pixel Shift technology, the red and blue pixel locations are shifted relative to the green, allowing the sampled color information to be quadrupled through interpolation. And, optical image stabilization (OIS) provides effective camera shake compensation without any of the quality loss associated with digital image stabilization systems.

Full HD 1920 x 1080 recording

The HD Everio GZHD5 camcorder offers full HD 1920 x 1080i recording. Native 1920 x 1080i resolution is maintained throughout the recording and playback process from lens, CCD, MPEG2 transport stream and output via HDMI or USB 2.0 with no quality degrading conversion. With a 60GB built-in hard disk drive you can enjoy up to five hours of full HD 1920 x 1080i recording at a high 30Mbps (MAX), plus you get two additional recording modes. Developed specifically for HD Everio, the HD Gigabrid Engine processed the CCD images as a 1920 x 1080 progressive scan signal. This provides the maximum image information to work with, regardless of the actual recording mode that is used. Also integrated into the chip are five digital noise reduction technologies that collaborate to improve vertical resolution. It's at the heart of the GZHD5's full HD recording system.

Great views

The 2.8" widescreen LCD on the GZHD5 offers a 16:9 aspect ratio for wide cinematic video shooting. Naturally the playback picture can be enjoyed in full widescreen dimensions on the LCD or on a connected widescreen TV. This Clear LCD cuts surface reflections and glare to maintain a clear, visible, bright view during outdoor recording in direct sunlight.

Built-in memory

The GZHD5 features a 60GB hard disk drive to record video and still images. Internal media means no need to buy additional discs and tapes. Since it's HDD, you can directly access the scene you want and delete the scene you don't want on the spot. Also, there's no risk of erasing previous recordings by mistake. A floating suspension system effectively dampens vibrations through polymer shock absorbers while a gravity sensor system automatically senses sudden acceleration such as in a free fall situation, and turns off the power to defend the hard disk so that a head crash can be avoided even when the unit is dropped. The GZHD5 also has a slot for SDHC/SD memory cards so you can store videos (SP mode only) and stills on this commonly available memory card (sold separately).

Advanced operations

The GZHD5 makes it easy for you to capture professional-quality video. A zebra function displays a stiped pattern across highlight areas on the image, making it easier to manually set the exposure. A full array of Program AE effects is available so you can choose the right exposure or shutter speed automatically according to the scene you're shooting. It's easily accessible via a visual menu dial. You can access a multitude of functions with the 4-way one-finger control. Pressing the four "compass points" on the circular control operates everything from menu item selection to manual camera settings. In addition to point-and-shoot simplicity, the GZHD5 also offers a wide range of manual controls including manual white balance, exposure control, sharpness control, shutter priority, aperture priority, and brightness control. Power-linked operation automatically turns on the camera when you open the LCD so you can shoot right away, and turns the camera off when you close the LCD so you won't waste power. There's an accessory shoe and microphone input so you can add optional accessories.

Expanded connection

The GZHD5 accommodates a wide variety of usage environments with its full array of digital and analog interfaces. In addition to new HDTV displays, HD Everio footage can be viewed on conventional analog TVs as well, thanks to its down-conversion function. And with USB and i.LINK connectors, it's ready to transfer recordings to a personal computer for full-fledged editing.

Getting your PC involved

If you wish to edit and archive using your PC, you'll be happy to know that the GZHD5 comes supplied with full-fledged software. Blu-ray disc compatible applications let you store original full HD content with full impact. And with plug-ins supplied for Mac software, Macintosh users will be able to create HD files using their own editing applications. Data archiving has never been easier. Just press the Direct Back Up button, and data that has not yet been backed up can be transferred to a PC automatically. With the Playlist function, you can select the scenes you want in the order you want internally at the camera. Since data is output as programmed via i.LINK, you can transfer pre-edited content to a PC for easier editing.
