Hybrid recording to DVD or Memory Stick® Media

Hybrid recording technology delivers a new level of flexibility for transferring your video footage and digital photos from the camcorder to compatible viewing devices. Record to DVD media, or choose instead to record to removable Memory Stick Duo&trade media or Memory Stick PRO Duo&trade media. You can even select from various dubbing functions to easily copy video or still images from the Memory Stick media to DVD — without using a PC. Images recorded or transferred to DVD can then be played directly most DVD Players (SD), computers, Blu-ray Disc&trade players, and even PlayStation® 3 video game consoles to share your memories with friends and family.

2.7" SwivelScreen&trade and Dolby Digital® Sound

A 2.7-inch Hybrid SwivelScreen LCD display provides excellent viewing clarity with improved resolution. This high resolution 123K pixel LCD screen rotates up to 270 degrees for multiple viewing angles, providing sharp, detailed images for monitoring and playback. The Hybrid LCD Screen provides accurate viewing in sunlighht or bright light, virtually eliminating the "wash-out" common with traditional LCD screens. The Handycam® DCRDVD710 records in Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound with its built-in microphone. By recording in 5.1-channel surround sound, you experience your home movies with active sounds coming from all directions. 25x zoom for crystal clear images

The DCRDVD710 features a 1/6" Advanced HAD (Hole Accumulation Diode) CCD, providing stunning detail and clarity with exceptional video and still image performance. Your video will also benefit from the professional quality Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® lens. Carl Zeiss lenses have an advanced optical multi-layer coating that offers less glare and flare with increased contrast. This results in vivid image brilliance, true-to-life color saturation and perfect renditions of subtle tones. The additional T coating on the lens further reduces unwanted glare and flare.

The shakedown

You may remember viewing old home movies where the picture shook so much you could hardly tell if you were filming Aunt Edna or Uncle Buck. Maybe they were difficult to distinguish anyway, but the point is, vibrations that cause the camera to shake can make your videos unpleasant to watch. With Sony's Super Steadyshot picture stabilization system, this is no longer a concern. This advanced stabilization system uses motion sensors capable of controlling a higher range of shake and vibration frequencies, to keep your videos as steady as possible, without sacrificing quality like lesser stabilization systems do.

Handycam lives up to its name

Using a camcorder can be intimidating for some people. With a press of the easy handycam button, most of the advanced features of the camcorder are locked out, letting you focus on only the buttons essential for recording. Scene modes include auto, twilight, candle, sunrise and sunset, fireworks, landscape, portrait, spotlight, sports, beach, and snow.

Creative techniques

Get creative when recording or playing back your videos with Sony's picture effect modes. Effects are available in either camera or playback mode, and include monotone, pastel, and sepia. Enhance your personal videos by adding professional looking fader effects. Choose from black and white. The DCRDVD710 lets you stay connected to family and friends by broadcasting live video with audio over the internet using the USB interface. It's like having your own video teleconferencing system.

An Active Interface Shoe conveniently gives you the option of adding accessories such as lights, flashes, and microphones to the DCRDVD710. A USB 2.0 interface provides an easy way to connect your camcorder to the computer for fast transfer of video and still images to your PC for editing. The camcorder can also be used as an external DVD burner for making copies of your DVDs or burning edited movies. Digital Still Memory Mode lets you capture still images directly onto Memory Stick Duo Media for easy transfer to PCs for emailing, printing, or sharing with other compatible Memory Stick devices. Finally, the DCRDVD710's analog inputs mean you can record any analog NTSC source to digital video. These inputs make the camcorder perfect for archiving analog tape recordings. This recorded video can then be edited on your computer.

Unlike NiCad (Nickel Cadmium) batteries, Sony's rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries are not subject to life shortening "memory effect". Sony's exclusive AccuPower meter displays the battery time remaining in minutes, in either the viewfinder or on the LCD screen. At the touch of a button, battery information is displayed on the LCD screen when charging and when the camcorder is turned off. The display will show how much the battery is charged, in 10 percent increments and the recordable time left when using the LCD screen or in the viewfinder.
