Most digital camcorders offer a combination zoom, with one number representing the optical power of the lens and a second number indicating how far the image can be digitally enlarged. Of the two, the optical range usually has the most impact on lens performance. This GRD33's lens has an optical zoom of 16x, providing a substantial level of magnification. If you want the picture to be even larger, the 700x digital zoom really brings you in on the details. Even better, this Hyper Zoom uses sophisticated processing known as Spline Interpolation to eliminate jagged edges and other forms of visual degradation that often plague lesser lenses.
