Quality Recording

The Digital8 recording format delivers 3x the color bandwidth of VHS with significantly less video noise providing stunning video performance. Digital8 records digital audio and video comparable to MiniDV on affordable Hi8 tapes. The DCRTRV460 is capable of playing back 8mm, Hi8 and Digital8 video tapes for maximum convenience if you have an existing library of analog cassettes. The DCRTRV460 features a 1/6" CCD imager with 290K (effective) pixels, which provides great clarity and detail, with exceptional analog video performance. The 20x digital zoom will get you right up close to the action. In addition, the 990x digital zoom interpolation means that extreme digital zooming is clearer, with less distortion than previous types of digital zooms.

Memory Stick Media Capabilities

Digital Still Memory mode captures high-quality still images at 640 x 480 resolution directly to Memory Stick or Memory Stick PRO media. Images are stored in the JPEG format providing easy transfer to PCs for emailing, printing or sharing with friends and family. MPEG Movie EX will allow you to record uninterrupted MPEG1 movies and audio directly to the Memory Stick media, up to the capacity of the media. For example, a single 128MB Memory Stick media can record up to 85 minutes of non-stop MPEG1 video, or over 11 hours on 1GB Memory Stick PRO media.

Plugging Into Other Capabilities

The i.LINK digital interface (IEEE 1394) provides outstanding transfer speed and quality for digital video editing on your computer or digital VCR. It gives you true digital-to-digital editing, without any of the "generation loss" that results in lower quality when you make analog copies. The i.LINK interface is becoming more and more popular, and is compatible with a wide range of digital VCRs and computers with editing software. The USB interface provides another fast transfer option, and since it is capable of USB streaming, it allows you to turn your camcorder into a video conferencing tool or web cam simply by plugging it into the USB port on your computer.

Shooting With Steadiness, And In Darkness

There's a world of difference between experiences that are moving and ones that are simply shaky. To encourage the first and prevent the second, Sony developed the SteadyShot picture stabilization system. It smoothes and steadies your videos without degrading picture quality. Sony uses highly sensitive and responsive motion sensors as an integral part of what has proven to be a more accurate and dependable stabilization system than those used in many other camcorders. This remarkable camcorder also enables you to capture video in total darkness (0 lux). With Sony's NightShot Plus Infrared System, you can capture natural looking video even when shooting in low light up to 10 feet away using the built-in infrared system without the monochrome color.

Increase Your Stamina

Sony's Stamina recording system conserves energy so you can get extra recording time from your battery power. The combination of low power consumption and an InfoLithium battery gives this camcorder incredible operating time. The InfoLithium battery communicates with your camcorder's AccuPower meter, letting you know how much shooting time remains. Because it resists "memory effect", your InfoLithium battery is capable of performing at full capacity long after lesser batteries have outlived their usefulness. It's a smart way to be ready for the action (having extra InfoLithium batteries on hand shows even greater wisdom). Battery information is displayed on the LCD when charging and when the camera is turned off. The display will show how much the battery is charged in 10% increments and the recordable time left using either the LCD or the viewfinder.

Program AE (Auto Exposure) modes make recording easy even when filming in challenging situations. Choose from Portrait, Beach & Ski, Sports Lesson, Landscape, Spotlight, Sunset & Moon modes. You can get creative when recording or playing back videos with Sony's Picture Effect modes. Effects available in Camera mode are: Negative Art, Sepia, Monotone, Solarize, Slim, Stretch, Pastel and Mosaic. Effects available in Playback mode are: Negative Art, Sepia, Black & White and Solarize. You can even add professional looking titles to your videos, selecting from 8 preset or 2 customized titles with up to 22 characters. Further enhance you personal videos by adding professional looking fader effects. Choose from Black, Mosaic, White, and Monotone.

Dubbing and Conversion

Connect the DCRTRV460 to a VCR deck to make VHS copies of your home videos quickly and easily. The camcorder will control up to 59 brands of VCRs. You can also convert and/or record any analog NTSC video source to digital video via the analog inputs. Analog NTSC video can also be passed through the DCRTRV460 directly into a PC via the i.LINK interface in real-time for easy PC editing of your analog footage.
