Every memory in high definition
Preserve every memory from your vacation or international adventure with the same vivid color and detail of the original experience thanks to the HDR-XR200V's high definition recording capability. An Exmor CMOS image sensor captures every moment in clear, detailed 1920 x 1080 resolution . And thanks to the HDR-XR200V's built-in 120GB hard drive, you don't have to worry about bringing extra memory, or running out of space at all, for that matter. Even in it most sensitive capture mode, the HDR-XR200V is capable of recording almost 15 hours of video. But, just in case you do need more space to record, you aren't limited to the hard drive — the HDR-XR200V is Memory Stick Duo compatible.
Made for adventuring
No matter where your next adventure takes you, with the HDR-XR200V it's easy to focus on both your subject and your location. The HDR-XR200V's built-in GPS receiver not only automatically updates the internal clock as you cross time zones, but it also allows you to track your progress on the integrated LCD map display, as well as to "tag" your shooting locations. Tagged videos and still images can be reviewed and played back using the Map Index function on the camcorder or once downloaded onto your PC using the supplied Picture Motion Browser software.
Hold it! Still and dual capture
Sony's HDR-XR200V is bursting at the seams with versatility. Not only does this HD camcorder allow you to capture 4-megapixel still shots, but thanks to its dual recording capability, you can also capture 2.3-megapixel stills at the same time that you're recording high definition video! It's like using a digital camera and an HD digital camcorder, at the same time.
Xtra Fine view
Sony makes the HDR-XR200V's 2.7" LCD viewscreen your one-stop hub for composing, shooting, and reviewing every scene you shoot. Not only does the Clear Panel LCD Plus display with 211K-pixel resolution offer a clear, detailed view of every scene, but its touch panel operation dramatically simplifies access to menus and functionality.
Celebrate the human face
One of the most common and enduring subjects of photography and cinema is the human face. Recognizing the importance of capturing the nuances of the faces of those appearing in your still shots as well as your video, Sony has designed the HDR-XR200V with two technologies that enhance the capture of the human face. First, Face Detection technology recognizes up to eight human faces anywhere in the frame and then automatically controls focus, exposure, and color to capture faces with greater clarity and naturalness. Second, in combination with dual-capture functionality, Smile Shutter technology makes it possible to automatically snap still shots whenever a smile is detected, even while you're shooting high definition video.
Hark! What sound is this?
Sony's HDR-XR200V doesn't stop with photos and video. Using the built-in Zoom Mic, the HDR-XR200V is capable of recording Dolby Digital 5.1-channel audio along with the video you're shooting. Back at home, you enjoy the same full, active sound you experienced when recording.
Fear no bump
While shaky "free-hand' camera movement might be en vogue in some Hollywood pictures, generally you seek a steady, even camera shot. Enter Sony's Optical SteadyShot image stabilization, featured on the HDR-XR200V. SteadyShot technology shifts the HDR-XR200V's lens to compensate for shaky camera movement, helping you achieve an unprecedented level of smoothness.
Versatile connectivity
Not skimping anywhere, Sony's HDR-XR200V serves up versatile audio and video connectivity options. First, an HDMI output is the ideal HD connectivity terminal, offering the ability to transmit HD audio and video along a single cable — ideal for viewing your HD video on your HDTV. Further, a component video output offers additional video connectivity. Finally, headphone and microphone jacks offer additional functionality, while a USB port allows connection of flash memory drives.
