Surround sound from one speaker???
As amazing as it seems, the YSP3000 actually delivers multiple channels of sound just like a conventional system with front, center and surround speakers. It does this by directing sound at certain angles around the room. Just imagine that sound is made of pool balls, and that your entertainment room is the pool table — the YSP3000 uses the walls to reflect audio. This reflective action creates the very impressive illusion that sound comes from all the directions your DVD or HDTV programming sends it. And, you don't have to be sitting in the center of your couch to get the effect, either. All that precision-directed audio bouncing makes for more listening positions. Translation: More "sweet spots," and less arguing over who sits in the middle. The result is true multi-channel surround that acts just like a multi-speaker system — but without the need for extra speakers. (Or a pool cue!)
Simplify your home and your audio
Flat panel televisions are popular for a reason: they stay the heck out of your way! But a full home theater set-up often means you need surround speakers, which can be bulky and take up a ton of space. That's where the Yamaha Sound Projector literally fits in — It's a great solution that simplifies your entertainment lifestyle. Even connecting the YSP3000 is much simpler than conventional home theater systems, because multiple speaker cables aren't necessary. And, you don't have to be overly-concerned about placement. It can be put in several locations in the room, or it can be wall-mounted (with an optional bracket — sold separately), or placed on a shelf or rack.
How it's made — The technical stuff
Ok, here's the tech talk: The YSP3000 incorporates digital amplifiers that power 21 beam drivers at 2 watts each and two woofers at 20 watts each for a total of 82 watts of power. Worried all that wall-bouncing is going to create sound distortion? Well, don't. Its advanced digital design is highly efficient and keeps distortion to an absolute minimum. Thanks to Yamaha's ultra-sophisticated CINEMA DSP technology, the YSP3000 creates thrillingly realistic soundscapes in your room. And, to customize your experience, three CINEMA DSP programs are available (Movie, Music and Sports). The YSP3000 is also ready for Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic II (Movie, Music and Game) and DTS Neo:6 (Cinema and Music) sound formats.
Automatic room calibration: It "learns" to match your room
Ok. We all know that most homes are not identical. So how could the same Sound Projector sound just as great in your home as it does in someone else's? Well, the way you get this system to work for your particular room is with Yamaha's exclusive IntelliBeam Automated Calibration. The YSP3000 comes with a microphone that you use during setup; with the microphone, the system automatically sets the best beam angles and modes, for the best surround sound possible. This makes initial setup both extremely simple and acoustically perfect. And, if you're an audiophile and you like to tweak things yourself, manual setup is also possible. The YSP3000's version of IntelliBeam is third-generation, meaning you get updated calibration technology.
Don't wake the baby and still get great sound
During low-volume listening, such as late at night, dynamic range suffers and you may miss some sounds. The Night Listening Enhancer offers two settings: Cinema and Music, with three-levels within those choices, to ensure you don't miss movie dialogue or quiet passages, or lose overall surround spaciousness. There is also a TV Equal Volume mode to prevent sudden bursts of loud sound such as from commercials. So let's get this straight. No pool table, more floor space, and night listening options. Yes. Your baby will thank you. (Baby not included).
iPod-ready with optional dock
The optional YDS-10 Universal Dock (sold separately) lets you connect your iPod to the YSP3000. You can listen to your iPod music and watch iPod images and movies on your monitor via the receiver. You can also operate your iPod via the YSP3000's remote unit with the On-Screen Display and charge your iPod. Works with:iPod nano, iPod mini and iPod (Click and Wheel).
XM Satellite Radio ready
These receivers are XM SATELLiTE RADiO (XM Ready), allowing you to hear over 150 digital channels of music, news, sports, talk and entertainment from America's number one Satellite Radio service. With the addition of the XM Connect and Play digital antenna accessory (sold seperately) just subscribe to XM SATELLiTE RADiO and hear radio as it was meant to be!

HDMI, Dolby Pro Logic II, and DTS Digital Surround
High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is the first and only digital interface to combine uncompressed high-definition video, multi-channel audio and intelligent format and command data in a single digital interface. HDMI switching, providing the most advanced method of delivering high quality video signals to a home theater system to enable the reproduction of DVD and satellite TV sources with HD quality. HDMI can also send the digital audio signals from sources such as DVD Audio, CD, Dolby Digital and DTS to provide simple components connections. The YSP3000 also has an improved version of Dolby Pro-Logic for music and movies. With a more intelligent matrix decoder, it is suitable for both stereo and surround-encoded sources. It offers "bass management" as well as the option of incorporating "width," "dimension" and "panorama" controls. And finally, DTS Digital Surround (New) is the basic DTS 5.1 channel sound format. It uses a higher data rate than Dolby Digital.
