Purchased Pioneer Elite A 20 to use with my primary 2 channel music system, while my AMC preamp was being serviced. The AMC power amp I am used to is 100 watts, and I can say the little A 20 with 30 watts drives my vintage Pioneer HPM 100s extremely well. The sound is uncolored and transparent, whether listening to classical or classic rock. Ive used it mainly on the direct mode, and Im pleased with the sound. A pre-out and a few AC input plugs would have been nice, but for the price, it makes a very nice inexpensive backup.

The Pioneer Elite A-20 replaced an old Nakamichi RE-2 for my analog setup and now brilliantly drives an Akai GX-635D, a Music Hall MMF-5 and a Philips 932SA SACD. I was looking for some time for a true analog stereo amplifier with a phono input and without a tuner or DAC, and I did not want to pay a fortune either. I own other Elite products and that tipped the balance in favor of the A-20 together with the speaker bi-wire and the direct signal options. The sound is what I expected it to be focused, transparent and dynamic. The only possible drawback is the somehow confused remote layout, but this doesn’t downgrade the amplifier in any way. For this price it is a steal!
