Improved HDMI performance
For 2009's generation of RX-V series A/V receivers, Yamaha has heeded your need for enhanced HDMI functionality. The RX-V665 doubles its number of HDMI inputs to a total of four, giving you the ability to use today's most advanced HD audio/video connection to hook up your newest HD component. Further, Yamaha has integrated HDMI pass through into the RX-V665's repertoire. A straight line is always the shortest path. And when it comes to audio and video signals, it is also the highest fidelity route. While the RX-V665 is capable of upconverting standard definition video signals to HD 1080p via HDMI, if your video source is emitting full 1080p already, the last thing you want to do is send it through the upconversion processing. This is akin to taking the long route — the more processing a signal is subjected to, the greater risk there is of loss of signal quality. Enter HDMI pass through. By letting HD 1080p video transmitted via HDMI pass straight from your Blu-ray player to your HDTV, the RX-V665 ensures that you're seeing the best HD picture possible.
Digital audio processing from the big boys
Audiophiles look to Dolby and dts digital audio decoding for the highest level in home audio performance. As an audiophile, you look to the RX-V665 from Yamaha, featuring the most advanced Dolby and dts technologies. First, Dolby TrueHD delivers tantalizing sound that is bit-for-bit identical to the studio master, unlocking the true high-definition experience. Second, Dolby Digital Plus combines the efficiency needed to meet future broadcast demands with the power and flexibility to realize the full audio potential of the upcoming high-definition experience. This multi-channel audio standard was designed for the formats of the future, but remains fully compatible with all current AV receivers. Third, Dolby Pro Logic IIx includes an added center-rear channel. Finally, dts-DH Master Audio, Neo:6, 96/24, and ES deliver sound quality that matches the clear and vivid images of high-definition video. Movies come alive with sound as lifelike as the picture, and music becomes as real as a live performance.
Put your feet up. You're surrounded
Get ready to jump at something that goes "bump" behind you. Prepare to duck for cover at the sound of low-flying jets. Get ready for the best seat in the house . . . your house. Your new RX-V Series RX-V665 digital receiver from Yamaha brings you 7.1 channels and 630W of total output power — that's 90W per channel. With the ability to fuel up to seven surround speakers, you get optimal versatility in customizing your home surround-sound experience. Assignable amps for bi-amp connection and second-zone capability let you use the RX-V665 as the helm for two distinct listening areas.
Ahh, Bluetooth
Letting you enjoy music wirelessly from Bluetooth® enabled mobile phones, portable devices, or personal computes, the RX-V665 is equipped to use the optional YBA-10 Bluetooth Wireless Audio Receiver. The optional YBA-10 both lets you connect the dock to the receiver and supports A2DP audio streaming.
Going beyond CD audio
You're ready to take your home audio experience beyond your personal CD collection and local radio broadcasts, and you're looking for the receiver that will take you there. With the RX-V665 from Yamaha, you're prepared to make that move. If you venture into the realm of compressed audio — think MP3, portables. . . something called the "iPod" — your new RX-V665 is ready with iPod compatibility. Simply hook the optional YDS-11 dock to your RX-V665, your iPod to the dock, and, POW, you've got a whole new world of audio at your disposal. If the variety and convenience provided by radio is your thing, but you're tired of repetitive, commercial-laden local programming, and you're ready to take the plunge into satellite radio, the RX-V665 is XM and SIRIUS Satellite Radio ready. XM Satellite Radio delivers access (with a subscription and optional XM Mini-Tuner Home Dock) to over 150 digital channels of music, sports, news, talk and entertainment. XM HD Surround Sound broadcasts in 5.1-channel surround sound. SIRIUS Satellite Radio readiness gives you access to 100% commercial free music, sports, talk, comedy and world-class news with a subscription and SIRIUS Connect SC-H1 home tuner (sold separately).
Enhanced audio is happy audio
Taking the experience of your portable audio at home one step further, the RX-V665 features compressed audio restoration technology. Most portable audio formats — like MP3, for example — are compressed audio formats. This means that some audio information (usually higher and lower frequency information) has been removed in order to shrink the file, allowing you to fit more songs into the same memory space. Your RX-V665's sophisticated digital signal processing with exclusive algorithms enable playback that improves the performance of compressed music formats, including MP3 and WMA. With the Compressed Music Enhancer, highs and especially lows are richer and smoother, bringing music back to life and as close to the original as possible. Experience your portable audio like never before, at home.
Your RX-V665 tailors itself to your room, your system
Using YPAO automatic system calibration technology, your new RX-V665 automatically optimizes your audio system's performance to the acoustics of your listening area. With a small microphone and sophisticated equalization technology, YPAO first checks the speaker connections and phase of each speaker. Then it sends out tones which are captured by the microphone to analyze the room acoustics and sets a variety of parameters, such as the speaker size, the distance of the speakers and even the sound pressure level until it achieves the best sound conditions for your room. Your RX-V665 has an improved system that is faster (requiring less than three minutes), adjusts frequency response, and provides three programmed EQ patterns, plus the ability to manually adjust parametric EQ settings. Six YPAO settings can be held in memory and recalled via two system memory buttons on the remote control.
The HD connection
Bringing you the absolute best in connectivity, Yamaha's RX-V665 features four HDMI inputs and one output. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the only interface in consumer electronics that can carry both uncompressed high-definition (HD) video and uncompressed multi-channel audio in all HD formats including 720p, 1080i and even 1080p. Your incoming media content comes in a variety of sizes, resolutions and formats, and with that in mind, HDMI systems automatically configure to display that content in the most effective format. Since HDMI carries all channels on video and audio, there is only one cable to plug into any HDMI-enabled source and display device. No more complicated cable set-up when installing your home theater system, and no more ugly cable mess behind your components. HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on this single cable. Also, HDMI is fully backward-compatible with DVI.
SCENE — A new level of operating ease
Four SCENE buttons on the included remote control make operating the RX-V665 easier than ever. The four buttons are initially set to default settings for DVD Viewing, Disc Listening, TV Viewing and Radio Listening. Pressing a SCENE button automatically launches a number of operations that initiate play of the source controlled by that button. Other SCENE settings are also available, such as iPod Listening, XM Listening, TV Sports Viewing and Action Game Playing. Browsing and selecting the settings is quickly accomplished by rotating the Input knob and watching the on-screen display. The settings can be selected for one-time use, or they can replace the original default settings. The SCENE names can be changed, also.
