Before We Get Started. . . |
You're looking at this receiver because you're ready to invest. You're ready to invest in the highest quality sound system. You're ready to invest in a component that will become the basis of your dream home theater system. Yet, you may read this and feel cheated because everything that works with this receiver is optional. Well true audiophiles understand that you could buy a $500 all-inclusive system and have one quarter of the sound capabilities, or you could invest in a system that's going to knock your socks off no matter what component you're running through it. This HTR Series receiver employs the absolute latest technologytechnology that hasn't even hit the mainstream yet. Yamaha's goal is to provide you with the features you'll need to get you through the next few years of technological advances. It has more inputs and outputs, front and back, than you can shake a coax cable atinputs and outputs for every component out there from your 20-year-old phonograph to the newest 1080p Blu-ray player. So maybe you still feel like you should at least get a bundle of cables for what you're paying (which, by the way, is an amazing price for the quality and flexibility Yamaha is providing). Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that any more. The high-end cables sold now are so far superior, and produce so little distortionif anythat it's not worth manufacturers including standard cables in the box. Now it's up to you, the consumer, to make sure you have the correct cables and connectors for the components you own. (Don't feel daunted though. If you have any questions, just ask us.) |
The View From The Top Is Spectacular |
Yamaha has created another marvelous modern technology with their SCENE functionality. The four SCENE buttons make operating the receiver easier than ever. Pressing one SCENE button automatically launches a number of operations that initiate play of the source controlled by that button. Browsing and selecting the settings is quickly accomplished by rotating the Input knob and watching the on-screen display. The settings can be selected for one-time use, or they can replace the original default settings. The SCENEs are initially set to default settings for DVD Viewing, Disc Listening, TV Viewing, and Radio Listening. Other SCENE settings are also available, such as iPod Listening, XM Listening, TV Sports Viewing and Action Game Playing. The SCENE names can be changed also. |
Simplay: Simply The Best HD Experience |
The Simplay HD Testing Program represents a standard of excellence in testing for a premium-HD "plug and play" consumer experience and to maximize users' access to HD content. Products bearing the Simplay HD logo have undergone stringent quality testing related to the High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) and High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) specifications, as well as compatibility testing with a suite of other devices that have been Simplay HD verified. |
Enhancing Your MP3 Experience |
When you purchase the optional YDS-10 Universal iPod Dock, you can connect your iPod, iPod Nano, or iPod Mini to the HTR-6060. Once connected, you can listen to your entire iPod collection of music as well as watch iPod images and movies on your TV or monitor. The HTR-6060 remote works beautifully with your iPod and you even get a free battery charge out of the deal. Along with iPod compatibility, the HTR-6060 has a compressed music enhancer to revive MP3, or other compressed format, frequency response. Yamaha's sophisticated digital signal processing, using Yamaha's exclusive algorithms, enables faithful reproduction of the highs and lows lost during the compression process. |
XM Satellite Radio Ready |
The HTR-6060 is XM Satellite Radio ready, allowing you to hear over 150 channels of music, news, sports, talk and entertainment from America's number one Satellite Radio service. In addition to providing you with endless entertainment, you get the opportunity to hear it all in the new XM HD surround powered by Neural Surround technology. With the addition of the XM Connect and Play digital antenna accessory (sold separately), just subscribe to XM Satellite Radio and hear radio as it was meant to be heard. |
Why YPAO? |
YPAO is insanely easy to use and creepily accurate. Forget the sound meter for speaker placement, YPAO does all the metering for you. The unique YPAO system uses a small microphone (provided) and advanced processing technology to analyze room acoustics. It then automatically adjusts various speaker parameters for optimum sound quality at the listening position. Best yet, it gets the job done in only three minutes. |
DSP Me ASAP |
The HTR-6060 uses DSP technology to bring the most out of your music and movies. Conventional multi-channel systems base their sound on Dolby® Digital and DTS decoding, using relatively simple matrix and steering techniques to create surround sound effects. Yamaha's CINEMA DSP technology is much more sophisticated. It naturally decodes the Dolby® Digital and DTS movie sound formats, but it also draws on a huge memory of real-world data from actual venues (especially for the music programs) and input from movie sound technicians. This data is stored and processed on Yamaha-developed LSIs, the most powerful audio chips in the world. One of the main advantages of CINEMA DSP is the large choice of sound field programs available. The basic program for movies is Enhanced, which greatly improves the sound of the surround fields. The "largest" of these sound fields is Spectacle, which recreates the open feeling of large-scale, epic motion pictures. The Sci-Fi, Adventure and General programs provide the optimum sound fields for those movie genres. |
No More Shushing |
During low-volume listening, such as late at night, dynamic range suffers and you may miss some sounds. The Night Listening Enhancer offers two modes, Cinema and Music, with three-level selectability, which will ensure that you don't miss movie dialogue or quiet passages, or lose overall surround spaciousness. It works for all surround programs, including Dolby Pro Logic IIx. The SILENT CINEMA mode allows private listening enjoyment of multichannel music or movies, with an accurate simulation of surround sound, through ordinary headphones. |
Other Fab Features |
Some other major features on the Yamaha HTR-6060 include 7-channel discrete amplification (105W x 7), 17 surround programs, SILENT CINEMA, and a Direct Access learning LCD remote control. It delivers high power to seven channels and features Yamaha's fine-tuned CINEMA DSP. The HTR-6060's vitally important digital-to-analog converters (DACs) use an extremely high performance 192kHz/24-bit operation type. They perform accurate sound field reproduction for high quality multichannel sources, and for two-channel stereo, provide outstanding separation and precise musical delineation. On top of all this the HTR-6060 utilizes Pure Direct signal bypass for high quality 2-channel and multi-channel surround reproduction, and reproduces surround for 7.1 and 5.1 channels. |
Inputs And Outputs Galore |
The HTR-6060 offers 2 in/1 out 1080p compatible HDMI v1.2a switching, providing the most advanced method of delivering high quality video signals to a home theater system to enable the reproduction of DVD and satellite TV sources with HD quality. Compatible with the HDMI Ver. 1.1 format, it can also decode digital audio signals from sources such as DVD-Audio, CD, Dolby Digital and DTS. With optical and coaxial digital inputs, the HTR-6060 can accommodate digital sources such as DVD, CD, MC/CDR, and D-TV/CBL. Optical digital outputs assure the finest possible signal travels from the HTR-6060, down the optical cable (purchased separately) and into your optical-cable compatible component. The receiver incorporates component video inputs, providing outstanding video connections. You also get S-Video inputs and outputs. In addition to the wide range of inputs and outputs, the HTR-6060 also includes a set of front panel A/V inputs for simple temporary connection. |
