Receiver of Respect
Representing a new generation of Onkyo A/V receivers, the TXSR603X brings you both stellar home theater performance and access to satellite radio through XM "Connect and Play." Revolutionizing radio through innovative, commercial-free programming, XM Satellite Radio is best delivered through the precisely engineered, powerfully amplified TXSR603X. With Powered Zone 2, you get the best of both worlds -- engaging surround home theater in one room with another two-channel source (such as XM Satellite Radio programs, MP3s or audio CDs) distributed to another. You can also take advantage of the onboard Auto Speaker with Microphone system to calibrate your speakers for the best possible sound from the listening position of your choice. And with a host of connectivity options, you'll find integrating the TXSR603X with the latest high-definition components a straightforward, stress-free activity.
VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry)
The TXSR603X incorporates Onkyo's VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry), which employs a unique D/A conversion circuit to mitigate the effect of signal noise. As noise is magnified during the conversion process, even minimal amounts of noise can adversely affect audio quality. With VLSC, data is converted between the sampling points and these discrete sampling points are joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. VLSCS is incorporated into your front channels where most prominent sounds are based. The result -- a noiseless, smooth analog signal based on the digital source.
Component Video Upconversion with TBC (Time Base Corrector)
When connecting playback devices to compatible displays, upconversion of both composite and S-Video signals to component video can be output through one single cable. During upconversion, each signal incorporates a synchronizatoin pulse (synch) that represents the beginning of each video signal. These synchs need to be highly precise in amplitude and timing to eliminate clock jitter, which can degrade the picture substantially, particularly on hgih-resolution display devices. By incorporating a time base corrector in the conversion process, inconsistencies in the signal's timing can be corrected thereby ensuring the highest quality picture possible. It's also possible to connect up to three HDTV-capable sources via component video for output.
Auto Speaker Set-up with Microphone
The TXSR603X uses a high-sensitivity microphone to pick up test tones from your favorite listening spot, and then uses an acoustic analyzer to adjust the sound pressure level and time delay of each channel. Test tones are output by each speaker, detected by the microphone and shown through an onscreen display. This ensures that each channel's delivered synchronously, so you get the most accurate frequency response from your favorite listening spot. Easily calibrated using the TXSR603X's onscreen display and quickly completed in minutes, this function is also useful if you decide to switch rooms, or even move to another home.
Multiroom Playback Capabilities Through Powered Zone 2
Powered Zone 2 gives you the option of different sources throughout your home. With the Powered Zone 2 function, you can enjoy one input source in your main room and a different source in another room through two different connection methods: using a receiver/integrated amp in Zone 2 or using only a pair of speakers in Zone 2. In the former method, you can enjoy 7.1 surround sound in the main room and play a different AV source in Zone 2 (with the Zone 2 amplifier automatically switched on by a 12V trigger). With the latter method, you can use 5.1 surround sound in the main room and play a different AV source (stereo) in Zone 2.
XM Satellite Radio Capability
The TXSR603X brings you commercial-free and high-quality satellite radio programming through an XM Connect and Play port on the rear. Simply connecting an XM Connect and Play home antenna (sold separately) into the TXSR603X brings you more than 150 digital channels -- stacks of content that have revolutionalized the radio industry forever. NOTE: Hardware and XM monthly service subscriptions are necessary, and are not included with the TXSR603X.
Integrating the iPod into Your System
Through Onkyo's proprietary RI system, which lets you integrate different Onkyo components for control through one remote, you can simply connect the TXSR603X with your iPod through the RI Dock for the iPod (DS-A1). What's more, the DS-A1 is one of the more versatile interfaces between the iPod and audio-video systems available offering you hands-free control, recharging capacity and even iPhoto playback.
Connecting With Quality
To help ensure the highest quality from your entertainment sources, Onkyo provided the TXSR603X with a full range of quality connections, including 3 component video inputs and 1 output that all feature component video switching. The amount of bandwidth needed to pass a component video signal depends on the video source you are using. To pass a progressive-scan DVD signal a receiver needs component bandwidth of at least 12 MHz, and a progressive HDTV requires approximately 30 MHz of bandwidth for flawless transfer. The TXSR603X's 50-MHz bandwidth is much greater than the 37 MHz needed for 720p and is more than enough for the clearest reproduction of the lastest video signals. There are also 5 S-Video inputs and 3 outputs, 4 optical and 2 coaxial digital audio inputs, 1 optical digital output, 2 audio and 5 A/V inputs. For added convenience, the TXSR603X has video, S-Video and optical inputs located on the front panel. There's even component video upconversion and composite to S-Video upconversion built into this receiver, helping the TXSR603X to once again get the most out of everything.
Sonic Balancing Acts
Wide Range Amplifier Technology was developed to tackle the sonic demands of today's multi-channel digital audio formats like DVD-Audio, Super Audio CD and DTS. WRAT virtually eliminates the adverse effects of counter-electromotive force by applying an uncommonly low amount of NFB (negative feedback) - the final result is a flat response beyond 100 kHz, which means you get full bandwidth power across all channels. In other words, this receiver can faithfully reproduce any signal that you want to listen to and do it more accurately than you thought possible! Naturally, movie soundtracks are not specifically designed for the smaller environs of your home, which results in the tonal sounding "bright" -- high frequencies seem overly loud. Onkyo's very own CinemaFILTER restores the correct tonal balance by adjusting the volume levels to more appropriate levels.
