The king of connectivity

We live in the age of connectivity. From smartphones to social media, more and more things are designed to work with each other, which is great. That's essentially the purpose AV receivers serve, bringing multiple home theater components to work together seamlessly. But some receivers do this better than others; some are more Elite (pun intended). Pioneer's VSX-60 has a healthy selection of inputs and outputs, sure, but so do most modern receivers. Where this 7.2-channel powerhouse shines is in its 21st-century connection capabilities, specifically mobile devices. With a dedicated USB port and included AV cable, you can easily connect your iPod, iPad, or iPhone to the receiver, no dock needed. The Elite VSX-60 supports playback of movies, TV, music (with album art), and even YouTube, and you can control what's playing with the included remote. Or, to turn the tables, a free App allows you to use your iOS device (or select Android models) as a full-function remote control for your receiver. You will need a network connection, however. If you do purchase the wireless adapter or connect via ethernet, you'll also unlock a whole array of streaming capabilities, including AirPlay, DLNA, SIRIUS/XM, and internet radio. A Bluetooth adapter is also available to play music from your mobile phone. Best of all, this 630-Watt monster allows you to play these sources through a second zone if you're so inclined. And despite all these advanced features, it's still plenty affordable.
