Technology Matters
High performance and quality are of paramount importance to JVC. That's why they incorporate some of the most advanced technology in the industry into this RXDP20VBK 7.1-channel, 120-watt x 7, THX Ultra2 certified A/V control receiver. Elaborate design and mechanical construction like zero interference technology uses separate block construction, dual heat sinks, and separate transformers for analog, digital, and video circuits to eliminate any interferences within the receiver. A CC (Compression Compensative) converter and JVC's exclusive 24-bit/192 kHz PEMDD (Pulse Edge Modulation Differential-Linearity-Errorless) digital-to-analog converter both insure that any CD or DVD signal will be reproduced exactly as it was intended to be heard and seen. This receiver is compatible with both SACD and DVD-Audio formats. Composite and S-Video inputs can be upconverted to component video output for highest quality display. With multiroom/multisource capability, you can watch or listen to two different video or audio sources in two different rooms by using the RF/IR remote control. And seven independent amplifiers take full advantage of the built-in THX Surround EX decoding for the ultimate in multichannel digital sound.
Go-Fast Chip
At the heart of the RXDP20VBK's DSP (Digital Signal Processor) is the Texas Instruments TMS320DA610 Aureus Floating-Point warp-speed chip. Its 1,800 MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second), or 1,200 FLOPS (Floating Point Operations Per Second) rating at 225 MHz clock speed make the Aureus the world's fastest, highest performing chip of its kind currently available, replacing two conventional DSP chips. Compare this model's 1,800 MIPS rating with the 150 MIPS DSPs used in earlier JVC receivers. For the most accurate operations, this chip features 32-bit (64-bit double precision) bit rates. The RXDP20VBK's DSP will decode THX Surround EX/Ultra2, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, Pro Logic II, DTS, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24, Neo:6, and MPEG-2 AAC. Plus, it handles DAP (Digital Acoustics Processing), 3D-PHONIC (virtual surround sound), 3D Headphone, DSP Digital Equalizer, Dynamic Range Control, and Bass Mangement. Its floating-point operations allow for more accurate calculations with an expanded range of numbers. And finally, the chip's compact size is conducive to reduced digital noise.
THX--Gold Seal Sound
THX is not a surround sound format, but rather a set of standards from THX, Ltd. (formerly a division of Lucasfilm, Ltd.) governing the performance of certified products and theaters. THX has dramatically improved home theater performance, bringing critically acclaimed sound and visual presentations of movies, music, and games to the home. Every THX Certified Home Theater Product is engineered and rigorously tested to guarantee your home entertainment is experienced exactly as the filmmaker, recording artist, or game developer intended. Two essential requirements are necessary to achieve the ultimate home theater experience. Performance standards that apply an exacting set of technical requirements designed to produce optimal sound fields, and the patented technologies designed and developed to capture and deliver studio quality sound to the home. Manufacturers work closely with THX during the product development phase, building components to THX specifications and incorporating THX technologies. Products are then submitted to THX and undergo a series of usability, performance, and certification tests. Only after a product meets the strict THX criteria is exclusive THX Certified status granted and final production begun. THX Ultra2 certification assures you that the JVC RXDP20VBK produces the finest sound possible for the best home theater experience.
Got THX Surround EX?
THX Surround EX decoding is available exclusively in selected THX certified components. This revolutionary technology allows for unprecedented, realistic surround sound possibilities. With the new ability to place sounds directly behind you, it allows for true 360 degree pans, and more realistic fly-over and ambient effects. THX Surround EX redirects bass energy from the surround back channels to the subwoofer, applies re-equalization to the surround back channels, and synchronizes the surround back left and right channels. Now, there's a true surround sound solution for all 7.1 channels--front left and right, center, side left and right, back left and right, and subwoofer LFE (low frequency effects). Full motion sound will truly make your home theater the one to be in!
Strawberry Fields Forever
The 1967 Beatles hit song Strawberry Fields Forever isn't one of the sound fields the RXDP10VBK can generate; but JVC's Digital Acoustics Processor (DAP) does digitally recreate acoustic environments like concert halls, theaters, pavilions, and dance clubs right there in your home. Working with a leading concert hall designer and contractor, JVC developed a new sound field simulation technology that's capable of handling multichannel sources. The simulation uses a vast database to create sound field patterns that are difficult to replicate with conventional processing based on field-measured impulse responses. Each sound field pattern is verified and modified repeatedly by critical auditions. The result is sound fields reproduced with the most natural and realistic simulation of reflections. Your living room can take on the ambiance of 10 different venues, as easily as touching a button.
One-Touch Entertainment
The enhanced version of COMPU LINK lets JVC receivers and other JVC components work together seamlessly. For instance, when you touch the PLAY button on a JVC CD player or cassette deck, the source and the receiver are automatically turned on, the input is set for the chosen source on the receiver, and play begins. You touch one button, and COMPU LINK does the rest. One-touch operation means you can make precise sound adjustments--volume level, equalizer response, and more--source by source, and automatically recall the customized settings each time you choose an input or tune a preset station. Your RXDP20VBK receiver remembers! Text COMPU LINK is the latest step in the march toward easier to use entertainment systems. The system is fully compatible with text data carried by media like MiniDiscs and Text CDs, and transmits the data from component to component. JVC Text COMPU LINK shows text data on the receiver's display and your TV screen. New overlay style on-screen TV display simplifies operation of your receiver by allowing you to choose options from a menu displayed in a much larger format. No more straining to see the receiver's display from across the room.
Getting Your Lost Frequencies Back
When analog signals are converted to digital signals (D/A conversion), the highest frequencies (usually above 20 kHz for CDs) are removed according to the CD's sampling frequency. Absence of high frequency data affects the sound quality in the audible range. JVC's CC converter applies proprietary algorithms to restore the lost signals. To reproduce digitally processed signals precisely, the CC converter has a broader bandwidth of up to four times the sampling frequency, extending beyond 20 kHz, which improves the quality of the music in the audible range. Through high-bit/high-sampling processing, the CC converter generates expanded digital signals with a quality close to the original analog master. And in response to the growing popularity of computer music files, JVC upgraded the CC converter so it applies different algorithms to noncompressed audio (CDs, DVDs, and other linear formats) and compressed audio (MP3, WMA, and others). Your compressed music files have never sounded better.
Nothing Remotely Like It
The RXDP20VBK's RF/IR illuminated remote control not only operates the unit itself; but also JVC CD players, DVD players, CD-R recorders, cassette decks, and TVs. Moreover, this remote is multibrand, so you can access functions of audio and video equipment from other makers, including TVs, VCRs, cable/DBS set-top boxes, and DVD players. All it takes is the touch of a button to recall preprogrammed codes for other brands' A/V components. This remote can learn the codes from any IR remote control. An LCD screen simplifies your audio and video operation.
